Job Summary:
This position will create, execute and maintain the Summitt Trucking fleet purchasing strategy for fuel and other commodities while managing compliance, training and cooperation across multiple programs aimed at reducing cost associated with fuel.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Manage a fuel purchase optimization and compliance program.
o Speak with drivers on a daily basis when drivers request to change suggested fuel stop.
o Run compliance reports no less than twice a month and speak with drivers that are out of compliance. Coach drivers to achieve and maintain fuel compliance.
o Manage the optimization program settings.
· Monitor driver related fuel economy metrics.
o Manage statistics of short idle, long idle, over-rev, over-speed and any other metrics that significantly affect fuel economy based on driver habits. Coach drivers to practice habits that optimize fuel economy.
o Manage the driver use of equipment to achieve maximum efficiency.
o Manage driver use of drag reduction technology, specifically trailer tail utilization.
· Monitor fuel economy metrics that are tractor related.
o Monitor fuel economy reports based on equipment grouped by tractor type, year, make and model.
o Monitor air inflation systems (PSI systems) to regulate tire air pressure.
o Monitor drag reduction technologies installed on tractors. Currently in use: trailer-tails, gap reducers, side skirts and Flow-Below.
o Monitor progress and fuel economy impact of low-rolling-resistance tires.
o Research, test and analyze new drag reduction technologies.
o Understand, analyze and learn about various engine and transmission components and their relevance to fuel economy savings.
o Must confirm that all applicable settings for the engine, transmission, anti-idle units, etc. are all in compliance with our standards.
· Monitor and analyze diesel and other product discounts at retail chain locations
o Monitor and analyze diesel and other product discounts quarterly with each major retail chain in the fuel network.
o Synchronize diesel discounts with internal software and external data capture companies.
o Make decisions on contracting additional gallons at specific sites for a larger discount
· Stay up to date on trends in the energy industry.
o Track oil and refined product prices.
o Track global, national, and regional supply and demand for oil and refined product.
· Manage monthly and quarterly IFTA fuel taxes.
o Complete monthly export of data and exception error corrections.
o Analyze IFTA tax cost impact based fuel purchasing by state.
o Analyze fuel purchases and investigate any potential fuel theft.
