GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Highly responsible administrative and professional work in coordinating and performing fire inspections and plan examinations, while applying the State of Florida Fire Prevention Code on existing buildings.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conduct annual fire inspections of buildings for compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes. Identifies violations of the Florida Fire Prevention Code, County Code of Ordinances, and other applicable rules and regulations and reports defects to the Sumter County Building Services Division. Maintain records and make reports.Regularly keeps the Fire Chief informed on the status of annual fire inspections and other fire inspections not provided by the Sumter County Building Services Division.Conducts inspection of food truck and special events for compliance with fire life safety codes.Attends continuing education courses, programs, and keeps up to date with codes, laws, and ordinances that apply to annual fire inspections.May from time to time provide fire and life safety education to the public at special events or other functions.Review plans, specifications and other data submitted to ensure conformance with the Florida Fire Prevention Code related to change of use in existing structures.Performs other duties and responsibilities related to fire inspections, fire watch standby, and emergency scene activities as assigned.Assure consistency in interpretation of codes among staff members.In emergency or crises (hurricane, flood, etc.), the position is required to perform reasonable duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.Maintains regular physical attendance during normal work hours as assigned at one of the County's offices or work facilities to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.(These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed.
