Description: The Technology Assistant is responsible for maintaining and managing a computer lab within the school. He/she helps the teacher in the technology lab with students who may need extra assistance and support on the computer. The Technology Assistant also cleans and straightens the lab between each usage and prepares the lab for the next group of students or teachers. Some duties may include the playground setting (duty) where there may be exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Sixty (60) college credit hours and/or Associate Arts Degree or higher is preferred
- Provide documentation showing a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment
- Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must have extensive knowledge of technology including computers (Internet, Word, Excel, software programs, etc.) and audio-visual materials and equipment
- Knowledge of standard office equipment (telephones, copiers, fax machines, printers, etc.)
- Must be able to develop knowledge of technology as it relates to education
- Knowledge of the English language including reading, writing and oral communication
- Knowledge of Spanish including reading, writing and oral communication is desired
- Ability to comprehend and perform functions from written and verbal instructions
- Ability to prioritize work, adhere to time restraints and attend to multiple tasks on a variety of issues
- Knowledge of arithmetic and basic mathematic procedures
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with students and staff
- Must be able to perform duties requiring physical demands; such as, reaching, bending, kneeling, etc.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to perform playground supervision duties
- Must be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical health
- Some experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers with students in the computer lab
- Set up computers and software for incoming classes
- Provide assistance with the preparation of instructional materials as needed
- Distribute and collect paperwork as needed
- Assist children individually or in small groups to help them master computer assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
- Plan and present demonstrations on the use of existing software and assists students and staff with practical applications
- Work with teachers and staff to develop strategies for effective use of the computer lab
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials
- Monitor groups of students engaged in independent study on the computers
- Organize and maintain software collection for lab
- Assist with the maintenance of an attractive and clean computer lab
- Assist with maintaining a positive environment that develops social, emotional, and cognitive skills; as well as promotes and supports cooperation and learning
- Assist with the supervision and enforcement of rules and procedures for student discipline and classroom management
- Provide assistance with inventory and maintaining equipment and supplies
- Research and recommend purchase of software and hardware for the computer lab
- Assist with the installation of hardware and software applications as requested
- Establish a preventative maintenance schedule for school’s computer lab
- Identify, diagnose and resolve minor computer problems
- Report major computer and/or printer problems to building Principal
- If appropriate, complete and submit all Technology Work Order in a timely manner
- Participate and assist with outdoor activities as needed
- Assist the school staff to continually maintain good student behavior and safety in the classroom, halls, cafeteria, gymnasium, playground and on field trips
- Attend staff meetings as directed
- Participate in grade level and/or subject area team meeting as requested
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with administration, students and all school personnel
- Participate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend on-going training classes as directed, and read professional publications for continued professional development
- Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or information
- Support and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school and the District
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal or his/her designee
Length of Employment:
- Nine (9) months
- School calendar will determine the days worked during the school year

Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board Policy GDO
