What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent position at Sun City Grand Community Association Management?
Sun City Grand/The Grand is the premier active, age-restricted community in Arizona. We are currently seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Granite Falls Golf Course. This is a full time position supporting a 365-day/year operation. Under the direction of the Superintendent, this position provides outstanding customer service in the maintenance of the golf course. Assists in management of golf course(s), maintenance, and other properties as specified.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, evaluating, corrective action, and supervision of the golf maintenance workers;
- Maintain and monitor policies and procedures and regular scheduling of staff meetings;
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, including forecasting and expense review on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis;
- Instruct equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment;
- Supervise pesticide applications and/or operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment;
- Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems;
- Oversee scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work;
- Inspect the golf courses and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs;
- Knowledge of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play;
- Responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment maintenance programs;
- Assist the Superintendent with homeowner concerns/issues;
- Keep current with events and activities occurring at The Grand; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Agronomy and turf grass management practices;
- Golf facility construction principles, practices and methods;
- Current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations);
- The modern philosophy, principles and practices of supervision techniques and responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent, 5 years’ experience in golf course maintenance; or a combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position listed above. Must possess, and maintain, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Preferred: College course work in agriculture, business management, recreation, or related field.
Ability to communicate in Spanish is a a plus.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS:
Preferred:Current state certification, or licensed, as a pesticide applicator.
