What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Support Staff (Part-Time) position at Sun Community Service?
Part-Time Residential Support Staff position
This position supports residents living in a clean and sober, residential 90 day shelter who have experienced homelessness and have a behavioral health diagnoses.
TASKS
1. Enforce policies, house rules, and follow Sun Community Service procedures to ensure that all residents are safe and feel supported.
2. Review all documentation in resident binder each shift, including resident logs and medication sheets. Also includes reading resident summaries and intake documents for new resident intakes to ensure consistency.
3. Review house logs (AKA chore sheets) for updates from management and issues that other Residential Support Staff have noted during their shift.
4. Accurately document resident interactions in their respective logs by following logging procedures.
5. Follow medication policy and procedures as required by the Medication Policy and Procedures and accurately documenting using appropriate logging procedures. This may include but is not limited to: overseeing residents taking their medications, intaking and discharging of medications to maintain an accurate record, update management when a resident’s medications are getting low or if there are issues regarding resident’s medications, counting controlled medications during every shift change, and other medication related tasks.
6. Complete all assigned chores for your shift as dictated on the House Log (chore sheet). This may include but is not limited to: cleaning, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, dusting, laundry, sanitizing high touch areas (see Sanitizing Checklist on outside of medication cabinet), and other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager or the Executive Director.
7. Intervene immediately when any resident’s safety is at risk or when any other emergency occurs using the On-Call and/or Emergency procedures. This may include, but is not limited to: calling emergency services, interfacing with emergency personnel, administering Narcan, placing residents in the recovery position, CPR if trained to do so, etc.
8. Answering the business phone, taking detailed messages on carbon copied message pad provided, providing information to callers (name, reason for calling, call back number, etc.), and taking steps to contact the appropriate persons for follow up. Residents from our other programs (Greggie’s House and Nevada) will call Sun House if there are issues at their properties. Triage these issues and notify on-call staff if the situation is urgent, otherwise write a note for the Operations Manager to follow up and leave it in their box downstairs.
9. Regularly evaluate the house and property for cleanliness, safety, and/or maintenance needs. Examples may include, but are not limited to: picking up trash on the ground outside, noting potential issues, ensuring the common areas are clean and free of hazards, etc.
10. Assisting management with intaking and discharging residents following the appropriate procedures.
11. Responsible for ensuring foods for meals and snacks are available on assigned shift, including cooking the evening meal for up to 10 residents at a time.
12. Assisting with clerical tasks such as photocopying, printing documents for daily use, creating shopping lists, inventorying supplies, etc.
13. If necessary, perform tests such as UA’s and breathalyzers for residents, document the results of the tests on the applicable form in resident binder, and communicate findings to management.
14. Other job-related duties as assigned by Operations Manager or Executive Director.
Work Schedule:
- Morning shift is from 7am to 2pm equaling 7 hours
- Swing shift is from 2pm-9pm equaling 7 hours
- Currently we are looking to fill two to three days a week for Swing Shift, with the possibility to pick up additional shifts or Morning shifts.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task in an environment with frequent distractions
- Ability to pass a TB test
- Proof of Covid vaccination
- Current food handlers card upon hire date or ability to obtain within one week of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with mental health diagnoses, individuals with an offender history, and/or individual's with substance abuse/dependency issues.
- CPR/First Aid trained
