Sun Grove Montessori School is a small private school in Fort Pierce, FL.
We are a nonprofit Montessori school serving students 6 weeks through 8th grade and is the only accredited Montessori school on the Treasure Coast. We have a supportive team culture that serves a diverse population of students from Indian River County, Saint Lucie County, Martin County, and beyond. Experienced Teachers who have Montessori 6-12 training and want to take the next step in their career are strongly encouraged to apply, as are progressive educators who do not have Montessori training. There is an opportunity for an incoming teacher to pursue employer-paid Montessori training.

The ideal candidates will have experience teaching 5th & 6th grade academics in a Montessori environment.
General Responsibilities:
- Schedules all support staff and coordinates with other lead teacher(s) for appropriate coverage.
- Meets daily with the teaching team and monthly with Elementary teams for planning and guidance purposes.
- Communicates all pertinent issues to Administration immediately.
- Models positive attitudes and courteous behavior for all children and adults and will prepare all other visitors, staff, and volunteers to model the same respect.
- Prepares and maintains a beautiful environment, on a daily basis, that meets the needs of all learners, nurturing the aesthetic, creative, ethical, intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual component of each child.
- Implements accepted models of Montessori best practice, rationale, and purpose.
- Continually and objectively observes each child’s learning style(s) and interests to increase success. Regularly records observations.
- Demonstrates competency to provide effective, innovative instruction with a balance of Montessori materials and other relevant aids.
- Oversees the learning of all children in the classroom while partnering with co-workers or support staff in supporting the needs of all learners. Is present in the classroom with the children unless taking an approved break.
- Plans, develops, records, and implements school-wide curriculum; makes or updates materials.
- Communicates ground rules and procedures effectively to all children and staff, and is consistent with natural and logical consequences using positive discipline techniques.
Responsibilities to the Children and Parents:
- Communicates with families weekly throughout the school year.
- Conferences regarding the overall development of their child are held three times per year as formal parent conferences. Conferences include strength and goal reporting. Facilitates special conferences as needed or by parent request.
- Keeps accurate and daily attendance and tardiness records for each child.
- Prepares regular classroom parent communications when appropriate and shares with Administration before distribution.
- Facilitates a self-evaluation and meets with students. These notes are shared between school and home at the end of each cycle.
- Maintains comprehensive reports for each child and transfers files to the next level or Administration prior to transfer or within a week of a child’s withdrawal.
- Provides Administration with copies of conference reports and/or test results for student files in a timely manner.
- Turns in a room repair list and wants/needs list during the last week of the school year.
- Participates in Middle School fundraising events, day trips and overnight events.
Requirements:
- Holds a Bachelor’s Degree or completing a Bachelor's program within 12 months.
- Shows interest in the Montessori philosophy or has Montessori experience.
- Demonstrates basic computer literacy/competency.
