Job Description: About the role Canadian Operations is the support unit within Sun Life Financial Canada accountable for the execution of business processes and projects supporting Sun Life Health, Group Retirement Services, Retail Advice & Solutions, and Investment Solutions. With over 5,000 FTEs in Canada and Asia, and an annual budget of over $750 million, it creates value for the enterprise by delivering industry-leading customer service and focusing on increasing productivity and efficiency. The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, reporting to the AVP, Financial Planning & Analysis, will focus on furthering the planning and expense analytics agenda with a strong focus on budgeting and forecasting, unit costing, understanding key cost drivers, generating internal charges to our business unit partners while influencing partners to manage expenses and reductions. The role is responsible for measuring financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and recommending corrective actions and tradeoffs to ensure the Operations leadership is executing against its financial goals and strategy. A key focus is also to report financial performance to Canadian to develop key drivers of performance and collaborate to ensure they are clearly understood at the leadership level. What you’ll do Financial Analysis and Management Reporting: Evaluates financial performance and makes recommendations through insightful management reporting by demonstrating engagement and collaboration with business partners. Calculates and reports financial results and key drivers against budget and forecast, identifying risks and recommendations for reporting purposes. Chargeback performance for Business Units as a result of the monthly allocation process Utilizes complex models to analyze outcomes for financial and non-financial data such as: Key metrics for unit costing of services Deep dive analysis including insight of data and analytics Business partner scorecards and understanding changes in key metrics impact analysis of projects to expenses People Management: Adhere to all manager accountabilities, by exemplifying Sun Life values and leadership behaviours, act in accordance with the understanding that your management role has an objective of developing and encouraging others to succeed by doing the right tasks at the right time – every day –to become the best they can possibly be. Translates strategies into clear goals, plans and metrics for team and individuals. Challenges people to set and achieve ambitious goals and holds them accountable. Financial Transformation: Identify, lead and deploy improvements in processes and tools. Budgeting and Forecasting: Responsible for execution of detail budget and forecast activities for assigned clients. Develops and ensures that detailed budgets and forecasts align with financial targets set for respective segments of Operations. Oversight in the execution of deliverables for the budget and in-year forecast processes through active project management, influence, collaboration with business partners, Canadian Operations Finance colleagues and expense management teams. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.
