What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer position at Sun Utilities?

JOB OVERVIEW
- We dig holes in the roadsides by hand and with machines to do horizontal boring and place conduits underground for fiber optic internet.
- Each team consists of 4-5 people, a truck, a couple of horizontal bore missiles, a mini excavator, a reel trailer, and all necessary tools and equipment.
- Most projects are out of state and require traveling, usually 2-3 weeks away and 1 week home. However, they can also be close enough to travel during the week and be home on the weekends. Some projects will be local, but we can’t guarantee they will be like that forever.
- We usually work 4-6 days a week, depending on the project and location, ranging between 40-60 hours per week. Overtime pays x1.5 for hours that exceed 40 hours per week.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- We are looking for someone who wants to progress and take career steps.
- You need to be able to work outside, 8-10 hours per day
- You will need to be able to dig and lift constantly throughout the day
- It is advantageous if you have worked on similar projects, such as landscaping, potholes, cable/fiber/communication, other utilities, bore missiles, etc., but it is unnecessary.
- Having a Driver License is required
FAST CAREER STEPS
- First, you will start as a laborer, mainly digging holes and feeding conduits.
- If you are ready for the next step, we will train you to become a Machine Operator and Missile Bore Operator. You will earn a pay increase of $25 per hour.
- If you show leadership skills, work hard, and show up on time, you can become a Foreman for your team within months. You will also earn another pay increase of $30 per hour.
- If you are at the top of the line, there are different ways to grow and earn more money. After 12-36 months of work with us, you could reach over $200,000 annually.
MEET THE TEAM & THE FOREMAN
- Before starting, we want you to visit the teams, have a short interview with the foreman, and stay to see what we are doing so there are no surprises while starting.
A TYPICAL DAY
- 07:30 AM - Meet on-site and set up cones and safety signs. Start digging holes.
- 08:00 AM - The Foreman and/or the Bore Missile Operators start shooting the missiles
- 09:00 AM - Start feeding in the conduit in the holes, and backfilling.
- NOON ish - 30-minute lunch, not paid for, but needed
- 03:00 PM - Stop shooting the missiles and start feeding through the last conduit and backfilling.
- 04:30-6:00 PM - End of the day
- There can be some weeks/periods when we choose to work 10 hours during 4 days instead of 8 hours during 5 days. This can depend on weather, projects, material shortages, etc.
