What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sun Valley Controller position at Sun Valley Resort?
The Sun Valley Controller is responsible for making crucial financial accounting decisions by collecting, tracking, and analyzing financial accounting information for all business lines. The Controller accomplishes these responsibilities by directing and managing 18-20 Sun Valley Resort accounting staff and supporting a wide range of operational businesses to help them achieve and improve the company’s business goals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support the accounting team, including the AR & Credit Manager, AP & Payroll Manager, and Accounting Supervisor, by establishing clear expectations, providing training and problem-solving, demonstrating positive leadership, monitoring performance with regular feedback, and completing timely annual reviews with goal setting
- Oversee all accounting operations, including daily to annual activities, auditing transactions, maintaining controls, addressing process deficiencies, coordinating with the Corporate Internal Control Department, managing tax filings, supporting CapEx reporting, and assisting in budgeting and financial variance analysis
- Coordinate and manage monthly closing activities, including recording entries, analyzing accruals, reviewing variances, publishing financial statements, facilitating reviews with senior management, and completing timely GL reconciliations for submission to Corporate Internal Audit
- Coordinate monthly and year-end closing activities, including recording entries, reviewing and adjusting accruals and inventories, and managing responses to external auditors’ requests for interim and annual audits
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to resort operations leadership
- Maintain and enhance computer skills with the Resort’s various software, including SUN/EPM Accounting Systems, Coupa Procure to Payment, UKG HRIS/Payroll, and POS/Ecomm. Other systems include RTP, Infogenesis F&B, Booker Spa, Agilysis Golf, Showpass Event Booking, etc.
- Work well independently or as part of a team with the Accounting Office staff and all resort departments. Exhibit a thorough knowledge of all resort departments and be committed to organizational goals, values and standards
- Maintain a guest-centric focus, safety awareness, and the ability to multi-task under strict time requirements
- Other duties as assigned which could be directly related or unrelated to the original position
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four-year college or university
- Certified Public Accountant preferred
- 5 years of progressive leadership experience in the hospitality/mountain resort industry preferred
- Advanced proficiency in all computer-based operations, functions and programs, such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and other MS Office applications
- Excellent planning, organizational, administrative, personnel and budget management skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to represent the company and deal effectively with a wide range of company personnel as well as firms/organizations/individuals outside the company
