Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, Inc. is seeking an experienced Reclaimer/Mixer Operator to join our Base/Grading Operations team. Job Description:

The successful candidate will perform duties to operate reclaimer in a safe and efficient manner to reclaim, excavate, cut, fill, and spread within a CMRB operation. Reclaimer/Mixer currently in use is Wirtgen.

Job Duties:

  • Check all fluid levels at the beginning of engine startup for the day. Monitor gauges and fluid levels throughout the day of operation.
  • Monitor the operation of equipment throughout the workday. Maintain an awareness of unusual noises or operations and bring any exceptions to the attention of the supervisor.
  • Perform light mechanical adjustments and/or assist mechanic in performing repairs on assigned equipment. Perform maintenance on drum daily or as needed throughout the day.
  • Keep service truck stocked with replacement teeth.
  • Operator also must have the ability to operate the Reclaimer in a manner to assure safety of personnel around equipment; especially exercising caution to prevent injury to equipment and personnel when operating.
  • Wash machine daily or as dictated by conditions.
  • Possess ability to assist running other equipment at the end of the day to finish the shift.
  • Communicate with a spotter/moisture guy to assure proper depth and moisture.
  • Can back a machine over long distances with back up cameras and mirrors.
  • Communicate with foreman on start and stop locations within the project area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times.
  • Complete all assigned Learning Management initiatives.

Experience & Knowledge:

Over one year and up to three years to become familiar with the operation of the Reclaimer/Mixer to obtain desired results while performing multiple tasks.

Some use of reading and writing is required, as well as adding and subtracting of whole numbers. Must be able to follow and take instruction. Operator is required to use and read fixed gauges, instruments and similar devices.

Initiative & Ingenuity:

Exercise judgment to comply with instructions or prescribed routines, methods, or practices involved in the making of minor decisions within the limitations of standard methods and procedures.

Physical Activity & Demand:

  • Position requires the ability to climb onto machines, the ability to grasp control levers, to push and pull levers and to have sensitivity in touch in order to feel amount of pressure exerted on levers. Such physical activity to operate control levers is repetitive in motion of the wrist, hands and fingers.
  • Position requires the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and the ability to perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications, and to make fine discrimination in equipment noises – which may indicate mechanical problems.
  • Light physical effort required to operate the levers, pedals and controls on the dozer. Continuously lifting or moving very light weight material (under 25 pounds) or occasionally lifting or moving average weighted material (under 60 pounds).

Mental & Visual Demand:

Continuous mental and visual attention is required. Operations are usually repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness and activity. Position requires visual acuity including depth perception.

Responsibility for Equipment:

Responsible for preventing damage to equipment due to mistakes, carelessness, incorrect process or procedures. Such mishaps could be costly in terms of repair or replacement of equipment as well as production time.

Responsibility for Material:

Responsible for preventing damage to material worked.

Responsibility for Safety of Others:

Constant care is necessary to prevent injury to others, due to inherent hazards. An accident should it occur would result in injuries of a partially incapacitating nature such as loss of an arm, leg, eye or severe health hazard.

Responsibility for Work of Others:

Responsible for own work.

Working Conditions:

Somewhat disagreeable working conditions with continuous exposure to dust, dirt, seasonal temperature variances and machine noise. Several elements are continuously present throughout the workday and are to the extent of being objectionable.

Hazards:

Injuries should they occur- could result in partial incapacitation due to loss of arm, leg or eye.
