What You’ll Do (Day-to-Day Responsibilities)
- Perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs on fire apparatus and related equipment (aerial lifts, pumps, ladder systems, electrical/hydraulic systems, etc.).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy trucks, emergency vehicles, and related machinery.
- Repair or replace defective components (e.g., pumps, hoses, valves, electrical systems) to ensure equipment meets safety and performance standards.
- Install and upgrade auxiliary systems, including radios, sirens, and lighting.
- Conduct annual service checks and inspections, including preventive maintenance (lubrication, fluid changes, and filter replacements).
- Keep accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment serviced.
- Respond to emergency calls to perform on-site repairs or troubleshooting as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to plan maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment, including tools, equipment, and service vehicles.
What You Bring (Qualifications & Skills)
- Diesel Mechanic Expertise: Strong diesel engine experience and in-depth knowledge of electrical systems.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on experience in heavy truck, heavy equipment, or emergency vehicle repair preferred.
- Licenses & Certifications: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred. Cummins, ASE, or welding certifications are a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with hydraulic, drivetrain, and suspension systems.
- Detail Orientation: Ability to accurately document completed work and parts used.
- Problem-Solving: Strong diagnostic skills to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
- Time Management: Capability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
