What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Mechanical Engineer Internship position at Sunbelt Solomon?
Brief Description
The Quality Mechanical Engineer role is a full-time (30-40 per week) paid summer internship position that is available at our Temple, TX facility from June 2 – August 8. This position will report directly to the Director of Continuous Improvement and Quality.
The goal of this internship is to support the Quality Department in resolving a recurring issue of leak failures in transformers deployed in the field. The intern will investigate the requested 24-hour pressurization process, during which transformers are pressurized to 5 psi to identify potential leaks. The primary objective is to determine whether this period can be shortened while still ensuring reliable leak detection, thereby improving efficiency without sacrificing quality. The intern will gain hands-on experience in mechanical engineering applications, process optimization, and problem-solving, while the department benefits from actionable insights to reduce field failures. This project aligns with the intern’s academic background in mechanical engineering and provides practical exposure to real-world engineering challenges in a quality assurance context.
