Job Summary
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Respiratory Therapist to join our team on a full-time, night shift schedule. This role requires a compassionate professional capable of providing expert respiratory care to patients across the lifespan, from neonates to seniors. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment and proficiency with EPIC electronic health records (EHR). This position requires availability to work every other weekend.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide respiratory therapy treatments as prescribed, ensuring safe and effective care for patients of all ages (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).
- Operate and maintain respiratory equipment, such as ventilators, oxygen systems, and aerosol generators.
- Monitor, assess, and document patient responses to treatment, making adjustments as necessary.
- Perform diagnostic respiratory procedures, including arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and pulmonary function tests (PFTs).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalized care plans.
- Provide education and guidance to patients and families regarding respiratory care and home treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided using EPIC electronic health records (EHR).
Qualifications
- Licensure/Certification: Respiratory Therapist license in the state of Illinois (RRT/CRT) or willingness to obtain.
- Education: Associates or Bachelors degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, with the ability to care for patients of all ages (neonates through geriatrics).
Skills
- Proficiency in managing tracheostomies (trachs) and associated care.
- Experience with nitrous oxide procedures.
- Knowledge of and experience with proning techniques for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
- Familiarity with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support and procedures.
- Hands-on experience in critical care respiratory therapy.
- Ability to recognize and prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) through appropriate techniques and procedures.
- Expertise in conducting and managing spontaneous breathing trials (SBTs) to assess patient readiness for ventilator weaning.
- Competency in arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Technology: Experience with EPIC electronic health records (EHR) is required.
Certifications
- BLS/ACLS certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire).
