What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Specialist position at Suncoast Center?
Job Duties:
- Serve as an active and engaged member of the CCBHC provider team, providing information education to colleagues related to peer experiences within the system of care
- Mentor peers while providing non-clinical, evidence-based peer support such as individual planning and wellness self-management to help peers navigate services and regain control over their lives.
- Monitor client progress using standard measures for health, behavioral health, and wellness. Work with team members to access increased care for clients as indicated.
- Participate and support open access model of care delivery.
- Assist clients in developing goals and strategies to address mental health conditions.
- Participate in the treatment planning and coordination of care
- Encourage development of problem solving, time management, and decision making skills.
- Participate as a team member in Illness Recovery and Management groups; Wellness support groups, and nutrition, exercise, and wellness management activities
- Promote health integration and wellness activities, assist with health screenings and linking to coordinated health care
- Utilize community resources including educational, social, cultural, and mutual self-help groups.
- Build relationship and provide referrals to community resources.
- Document all interactions and activities in the electronic medical record according to agency standards and complete National Outcomes Measures (NOMS) for CCBHC participants.
- Respond appropriately to personal stressors, triggers, and indicators.
- Earn and maintain Florida Certification Board certification as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist.
- Follow CCBHC care coordination policies and practices to ensure accurate and effective coordination of care is maintained for all CCBHC clients internally and externally.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services and have maintained stability within the last two years, or have lived experience as a family member or caregiver to a child or adult diagnosed with a mental health condition or substance use disorder.Must be able to read, write and comprehend oral instructions. Must be willing to use or learn computer software. Must have personal attributes suited to working in a team environment with persons with serious mental illness.
Education: High School Graduate or GED Certificate required. AA, AS Human Services or related field from an accredited university preferred. Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) & WHAM or Peer Support Whole Health & Resiliency experience preferred.
Certification: Certification as a Recovery Peer Specialist or Recovery Support Specialist preferred. Certification can be earned on the job.
Additional Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age.
Negative Drug Screening prior to hire and throughout employment.
Clear Criminal Background Check throughout employment with Suncoast Center and local checks prior to hire and annually along with DCF Level II prior to hire and as required by DCF, and Must have valid Florida Driver’s License Motor Vehicle checks prior to hire and annually with acceptable driving record maintained throughout employment along with reliable vehicle, valid registration, and valid vehicle insurance.(must be in compliance with Florida Laws and Administrative Codes with fingerprinting and determined to be of good moral character).Must be able to provide official transcripts.
Working Conditions:
- Florida Driver’s License is required, along with daily access to a reliable and insured vehicle. Suncoast Center office, as well as in the community. Exposure to extreme heat and humidity during the summer months.
