The dynamic and exciting role of SnowSports School Director is responsible for the overall leadership, operations, planning, and financial health of the Sunday River SnowSports School department. The Director will play a crucial role in shaping the experience of guests at Sunday River, ensuring that all programs are not only enjoyable but also safe and educational. This is a 9-12 month position dependent on candidate experience and work flexibility.
The SnowSports Director actively participates in meetings and planning sessions, they uphold and support companywide policies and procedures and foster an environment where open communication is key. They are a leader that spearheads departmental recruitment, training, daily operations and succession planning. As Director, this role will oversee the departmental leadership team within the SnowSports School. This position reports to the VP of Resort Services, with dotted line reporting to the Boyne SVP of SnowSports School.
Responsibilities:- Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and inspire the SnowSports team, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth and excellence
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for instructors, ensuring that all staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide exceptional experiences to guests.
- Hire and onboard all SnowSports team members.
- Payroll approvals, status changes, rate change requests, and terminations.
- Adhering to and helping to promote and engage the SnowSports team in companywide policies and procedures.
- Builds an annual training program to support instructor professional growth in SnowSports, including daily trainers and level prep curriculum.
- Over see the SnowSports School leadership team which also included the Children’s Program, Adult Program, Privates, and Seasonal Programming.
- Operational Oversight
- Manager day-to-day operations of the SnowSports School, ensuring efficient processes and with quality customer service.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and enhance guest experience. Also work closely with Guest Services and sales points through registration and check in process.
- Oversee general daily operations, operational needs, and communication with other departments regarding supporting SnowSports operations, (Grooming, Lift OPs, Guest Services, etc.).
- This role requires excellent customer service skills.
- Financial Management
- Oversee the budget for the SnowSports School, ensuring financial health and profitability.
- Analyze sales trends and customer feedback to continuously improve offerings and identify new revenue opportunities.
- Work closely with the SnowSports management team to ensure inventory management (long and short term), as well as managing the guest experience through staffing adn ratio levels.
- Expanding existing revenue streams and seeking new revenue avenues.
- Responsible for the operating budget and manages all invoice processing, preparing PO and, monitoring expenses.
- Work with Director of Tickets and Guest Services with Lesson Desk sales processes and follow processes set by Guest Services, Accounting, and the Product Development Manager.
- Guest Experience Enhancement
- Ensure all guests receive exceptional customer service from the first inquiry through to their final lesson.
- Act as a point of contact for guest feedback, using insights to make informed decisions about program improvements.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Courteous and respectful towards team members in all areas.
- Providing Team communications via multiple channels including Flaik and any other communication pathway the SnowSports School leverages for efficiency.
- Keep updated on current events/promotions and inform team and supervisors.
- Build positive, professional relationships with other department managers and supervisors, fostering an environment of unity and camaraderie between SnowSports and other departments around the resort.

- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in SnowSports instruction to enhance personal skills and teaching techniques.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a demanding environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, team building, and oral/written communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to remain courteous and organized when under pressure.
- Proficient with MS Office and other computer applications.
- Motivated to take on new challenges and responsibilities, able to show initiative and adapt to change.
- 3 years Supervisory or Management experience in the Ski Industry.
- 3 years experience working within a Snow School Department.
- PSIA/ASIA Certifications an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary ranges from $65k-$79k, depending on experience and qualifications, with room for professional growth and advancement
