What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Care Provider/Floater position at Sunflower Child Care Center?
Overview:
Sunflower Child Care Center is seeking a full-time, qualified child care provider/floater for all age groups in our Center (infants through preschool). Float staff play an important role as members of our caregiving team to carry out classroom activities and attend to children’s physical and emotional needs when a classroom’s lead teacher is on break or absent, and to provide additional support to lead teachers on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities:
- Fill in for teachers while they are on their planning period or lunch break
- Occasionally serve as a substitute teacher when a teacher is out
- Assist teachers with classroom activities as needed
- Engage children in play
- Ensure that the basic needs of the children are met
- Lead children by example – teach children through modeling and coaching
- Develop and maintain positive daily communication with parents via face-to-face interactions and the Brightwheel app
- Help teachers maintain a clean and tidy classroom
- Adhere to health/safety and sanitation procedures
- Ensure the children are being appropriately supervised at all times
- Provide opportunities for social interactions between children and coach/model positive social skills
- Maintain personal professional development to ensure continuous quality improvement
- Ability to work 9 am – 5:30 pm, Monday – Friday, but flexibility in schedule is preferred
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional child care experience
- Strong oral and written communication skills in addition to basic computer skills
- High energy and the ability to work well with children, staff, and parents to foster a team environment
- A strong understanding of child development
- Ability to obtain Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification once hired
- Ability to complete Mandated Reporter training once hired
- Must clear a full background check and pass a health screening
- Ability to lift 40 pounds and play on the floor with the children
- The ability to work collaboratively, inclusively and respectfully with other staff and teachers, students, and families
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma, CDA, or equivalent
Hourly Wage & Benefits:
- $15 per hour, bi-weekly pay schedule
- Paid personal/sick and vacation time off after 90-day probationary period
- Approximately 15 paid holidays throughout the year (eligible after probationary period)
