Librarian/Media Specialist 2024-2025

Job Title: Teacher Librarian

Job Summary:
A unique opportunity to join Sunflower County Consolidated School District as a Teacher Librarian. In this role, you will be responsible for providing an enriched library environment and assisting students in acquiring skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage educational resources by operating and supervising the media center, evaluating and selecting new materials, and making them available to supplement instructional programs.
• Maintain a comprehensive cataloging system and instruct teachers and students on its use.
• Work with teachers to plan assignments that lead to extended use of media center resources.
• Serve as a consultant to principals and teachers on materials, equipment, and audiovisual material creation.
• Arrange interlibrary loans and conduct in-service workshops on audiovisual materials design.

Student Performance and Departmental Efforts:

• Promote appropriate student conduct in the media center.
• Help students develop habits of independent reference work and reading skills.
• Counsel students with special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.

Fiscal Management and Fixed Assets:

• Purchase books and supplies according to Mississippi Public School Standards.
• Maintain fixed assets inventory and remove obsolete materials from the collection.
• Prepare and administer the media center budget.

Requirements:

• Valid teacher certification
• At least two years of experience as a teacher
• State certification in library/media science
• Able to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and community members
• Good physical condition with ability to lift 10 pounds
