What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substation Technician Intern position at Sunflower Electric Power Corporation?
Sunflower Electric Power Corporation's Great Bend, KS and Garden City, KS substation crews are now accepting applications for 2025 summer interns! This hands-on internship opportunity allows you to travel Sunflower's service area to inspect, install, test, and maintain electric transmission and distribution substation equipment including power transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and other electronic systems. You will experience various aspects of construction and/or replacement of high voltage equipment. Beyond normally scheduled work, you also get to participate in higher intensity call-out situations!

Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a post high school technical certification program in industrial electric, instrument and controls, or electronics
Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST) Test.

EEI Testing:
We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests, available here:
EEI Practice Tests
Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
Note: EEI does not allow access to the actual tests. Testing sessions are held at various locations.
