Job description
We are a private practice, one-doctor orthodontist office in the Eastlake area of Chula Vista, and we are looking for someone awesome to join our Sunga Orthodontics team as a Dental Assistant (DA)!
Dental Assistant Total Compensation:
- Beginning rate of $17.00-20.00/hour (negotiable based on experience), non-exempt from overtime
- Retirement plan, paid vacation time, and select paid holidays once eligible

Dental Assistant Hiring Details:
- Full Time at 32 hours each week (four weekdays, closed Sat/Sun/one weekday), variable based on business needs
- Reports directly to Johnathan Yau, Manager/Treatment Coordinator
- Start date as soon as able, position will be closed once a candidate is offered and accepts conditions of employment

Dental Assistant Job Summary:
Our Sunga Orthodontics Dental Assistant is a position that plays a key role in positively impacting the flow of our Family of Patients through their appointment and treatment experience while positively representing Sunga Orthodontics. Your typical day will consist of ”flexing” between clinical and front office duties. Your daily focus will be striving to exceed clinical & patient experience expectations.
Dental Assistant Responsibilities & Duties:
- One-on-one patient contact including but not limited to: patient records/impressions, separators, oral hygiene monitoring, ligature removal, digital scanning, intra/extraoral pictures, radiographs, and patient education
- Support and assist clinical team as needed, including but not limited to: traditional chairside/four handed assisting (including treatment chart notation), sterilization, and workstation prep/turnover
- Support and assist front desk/administrative team as needed, including but not limited to: scheduling, appointment check in/out, and phone/text/email correspondence
- Effectively utilize technology tools, including Patient Management Systems (Dolphin), the internet, and other programs/software
Dental Assistant Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- 6-12 months dental assisting and/or orthodontic office experience preferred (not required)
- Completion of: (i) a California Dental Board-approved 2-hour course in the California Dental Practice Act and (ii) a California Dental Board-approved 8-hour course in Infection Control; (clinical dental assisting experience of at least 12 months may be accepted as a substitute in some cases)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by ARC, ASHI, AHA, ADA-CERP, or AGD’s Program Approval for Continuing Education
- High School or equivalent completed education required
- Proficient and comfortable utilizing computers and other technology tools
- Intuitive and enthusiastic in terms of providing an immediately positive first impression, caring for others, the desire to help, and friendliness
- Organized with attention to detail
- Passion for utilizing effective communication and collaborative teamwork to achieve business goals—a “go-getter”
- Willingness to learn, adapt to, and execute office best practices and procedures
- Comfortable in conversational and professional communication
