General Summary

SunGas is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team with exciting growth potential. SunGas supplies licensed technology and equipment solutions based on its proprietary fluidized bed gasification system. The SunGas system combined with downstream technologies produces a wide variety of renewable energy and chemicals products, including syngas, hydrogen, electric power, renewable natural gas, methanol, sustainable aviation fuel, gasoline and diesel fuels.
We are looking for a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a thriving energy company in Houston, Texas. You will be working on all aspects of mechanical systems designs related to the company’s gasification system. SunGas’ dynamic work environment includes daily interaction with our own technical subject matter experts and suppliers, as well as our customers and their EPC and owner’s engineers. Applicants should be energized by a dynamic team environment in which a diverse set of stakeholders must be engaged during the successful deployment of SunGas’ renewable energy platform. This position reports to SunGas Manager of Mechanical Engineering.
Responsibilities
· Provide engineering support on S1000 mechanical equipment design.
· Support new products design, improvements, and innovations.
· Prepare company standards and mechanical specifications.
· Develop and review: mechanical datasheets, vendor bidding and selection, and detail drawings.
· Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors.
· Supporting the growth of the company’s intellectual property portfolio related to its technology.
· Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
· Experience in design of complex mechanical equipment.
· High temperature design
· Pipe stress analysis/Refractory design a plus
· Solids handling experience a plus
· Heat transfer design/Pumping Systems/Compression systems
· 3D model development
· 3D design tools
· Familiarity with design codes and standards such as API, PIP and ASME.
· Excellent computer skills, with experience in CAD program.
· Previous EPC industry experience and/or fabrication is desired.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
· Experience with design or handling of rotating equipment is a plus.
· Professional Engineering (PE) certification is preferred.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in mechanical engineering
· 10-15 Years of relevant project experience
Work Location
This is a full-time position located in the SunGas offices Monday through Friday. SunGas is located near Fallbrook and W. Sam Houston Parkway N. in Houston. Extended or hybrid remote work options are not available for this position, however we do offer the flexibility to work outside of the office on occasion when necessary.
Travel
This position requires occasional travel up to approximately 10-15% of the time, primarily for business and technical meetings, site and shop visits, and industrial plant facilities.
