Elementary Wellness Educator | Long-Term Substitute Position (January 2025 - February 2025)

Position Location: Sunita Williams Elementary School
Dates: Immediately (Long term Substitute 4-6 weeks) 

Job Summary:

The Needham Public Schools seeks a passionate and dedicated long-term substitute Elementary School Wellness Educator to teach health and physical education to students in grades K-5. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to promoting holistic health and well-being, helping students connect their learning in both disciplines to broader wellness outcomes, including physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational/leisure dimensions. The health curriculum will include a unit on Growth and Development.

Position Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in 5th-grade health education and K-5 physical education.
• Support students' social and emotional skill development.
• Collaborate effectively with department members to enhance student learning, growth, and well-being.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
• Certification in health and physical education is required, or certification in physical education with a willingness to obtain health certification within the first three years of teaching in Needham.
• Strong relational skills, a solid foundation in teaching, and experience with a skills-based approach to physical education (including Teaching Games for Understanding - TGFU) are essential.
• Experience working with elementary school students and a strong understanding of their developmental needs.
• A collaborative work ethic and the ability to integrate wellness concepts into the curriculum.
• Proficiency in instructional technology and a commitment to inclusive pedagogy.
• The potential to contribute positively to student life beyond the classroom.

License:
Candidates must possess a valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education license as a health and physical education teacher.
