What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Care Staff position at Sunlight Children's Services?
The Sunlight Children’s Home Direct Care Staff works directly with youth ages 0-17 that have experienced abuse or neglect, or otherwise endured trauma. Direct Care Staff must always ensure the safety of our guests. Direct Care Staff must maintain the confidentiality of all children served. Direct Care Staff are expected to model appropriate behavior and demonstrate empathy and respect in all interactions. Direct Care Staff must have the ability to re-direct negative behaviors and implement trauma-informed strategies to support children experiencing dysregulation.
The specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides quality of care, a safe and healthy setting that is free from harm, and with a mindful upholding of the rights of residents.
- Assists with daily living activities for residents.
- Provides supervision for residents at all times, which includes bed checks in accordance with SCH policy.
- Performs routine cleaning of the facility, including laundry.
- Facilitates program as established by administrators
- Responds to residents’ needs and ensures residents receive appropriate care and attention.
- Meal preparation, as needed.
- Completes documentation as needed.
- Advises administrators on staffing needs, process changes, and supply issues related to home maintenance and resident care.
- Reports any issues related to resident safety or supervision immediately
- Assists with training new staff
- Supports the implementation of new processes or house rules and provides feedback to administrators about implementation challenges.
- Completes specific house-related tasks as assigned (meal prep, donation organization, additional cleaning tasks, etc.), reports any challenges or barriers to supervisor
- Meets with administrative and other staff as needed, remains up to date on annual training, and attends staff meetings as required.
- Other tasks as assigned
Requirements:
Direct Care Staff must be 21 years of age, possess a High School Diploma or GED, and can pass all state and federal background checks, as established by KDHE and DCF.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; stoop; bend; walk; talk; hear; use hands to grip, type; reach with hands and arms; required daily to stand or walk on uneven surfaces; climb stairs; lift up to 40 pounds.
