What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Liaison position at Sunlight Children's Services?
The Sunlight Child Advocacy Center Mental Health Liaison reports to the Clinical Director and serves as a resource and connection to mental health services, helps the clinical team with mental-health related tasks, and extends support to mental health clients and their families throughout the duration of treatment.
Responsibilities:
- Apply trauma-informed skills and techniques when engaging with victims and their non-offending caregivers.
- Meet directly with the caregiver and victim following the forensic interview and conduct a same-day (if appropriate) trauma screen to determine eligibility for mental health services.
- Engage with and educate families on the need for mental health treatment using trauma-informed approaches.
- Explain the mental health intake process and other relevant information necessary for starting treatment.
- Help caregivers access and create their online client portal and assist them with completing intake paperwork.
- Provide a tour of the mental health space to victims and families.
- Oversee the OMS Mental Health Survey and meet with caregivers to administer when due.
- Assist clinical staff with caregiver assessments and data entry.
- Be versed in using the mental health Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Assist clinicians with filing, scheduling, appointment reminders, general outreach, and other family follow-up needs.
- Provide caregivers with appropriate referrals to outside mental health services/providers when necessary (under the direction of clinical staff).
- Help monitor and manage incoming referrals and prospective client list.
- Greet victims and families upon arrival and dismissal from therapy appointments.
- Stay current on community and surrounding county resources.
- Attend monthly Case Review Team (CRT) meetings.
- Complete required mental health/advocacy related training to meet NCA and program accreditation standards.

- Capability to respect confidentiality and privacy of families, victims, and SCS staff, (must sign confidentiality agreement).
- Interact respectfully and mindfully with different races, cultures, ethnicities, and diversities.
- Exercise good judgement and demonstrate effective critical thinking skills.
- Proficient with computer skills and programs (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.).
- Experience with creating reports and updating a secure database.
- Demonstrate a commitment to follow SCS procedures and protocols.
Requirements:
- High school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience in advocacy/social work/case management and/or mental health-related field.
- Must pass background checks (KBI, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, Offender Registration)
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be willing to travel between both locations (Andover and El Dorado).
