What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Supervisor position at SunLine Transit Agency?
Field Supervisors supervise, monitor and provide coaching, instruction and training to an assigned group of bus operators and controllers engaged in direct delivery of safe, reliable and efficient transportation services. Incumbents monitor bus operator performance in the field, research customer complaints and comments and investigate accidents involving Agency buses. This position will be working early morning, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Plans, organizes and evaluates the work of assigned staff; participates in developing and implementing plans, processes, procedures and policies applicable to assigned operations; coordinates with other supervisors to address and resolve operational problems and issues to meet performance standards; monitors operations to identify problems and issues requiring department study and resolution.
- Supervises and monitors the work of bus operators; verifies scheduled assignments; monitors and evaluates operator performance in the field in executing assigned routes and schedules; provides onboard inspections to validate vehicles are in conformance with Agency policies and standards; evaluates operator performance as it relates to safety; provides onboard bus/van training and spot inspections and safety evaluations; recommends additional operator training and disciplinary action if warranted; recommends changes to stops and equipment to improve passenger safety.
- Performs line checks to validate its on-time performance of routes; plans detours and temporary stops to provide safe and efficient routes with limited service disruption.
- Researches and resolves or recommends the resolution of customer complaints; may directly respond to customer complaints or inquiries, by telephone and in writing, with sensitivity to the public relations aspects of the situation.
- Ensures staff conformance with Agency rules and regulations, including the Drug and Alcohol Policy, as well provisions of labor contracts and agreements; participates in the resolution of employee concerns and grievances; makes standard interpretations of labor contract provisions to supervisors and/or staff; evaluates employee attendance, performance and other issues; makes recommendations on discipline as required.
- Prepares and maintains department records and reports, including daily supervisor logs and system performance statistics; assists in the maintenance of credentials and licensing documents.
- Conducts behind-the-wheel training for operators and training for new Field Operation Supervisors and controllers as needed.
- Uses two-way radio equipment to provide advice and assistance to operators on how to handle difficult, sensitive or potentially dangerous situations as they arise; responds to covert and overt on-board alarms; assists operators with mechanical difficulties.
- Operates Agency equipment for the purpose of operator training or in emergency situations.
- Assists in performing controller services as needed.
- High School or G.E.D. equivalent
- At least four (4) years of increasingly responsible office, administrative, customer service or related experience providing familiarity with public transit and/or supervision; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- California Class B driver license with passenger endorsement or the ability to obtain a Class B license within 6 months of hire.
- A current, valid and unrestricted Class C California driver's license.
