What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at SunLine Transit Agency?
SunLine is currently hiring for Mechanic A, Mechanic B, and Mechanic C
Working with little to no supervision, ensure the operability of the buses and other vehicles that are owned and operated by SunLine Transit Agency. Performs preventative and routine service and maintenance according to the vehicle’s manufacturer’s recommendations, as well as inspect, troubleshoot, and determine the appropriate actions to address and repair mechanical and technical problems to return the vehicle to service in a timely manner. Oversee the work of Mechanics B & C, and provide advice, guidance, and feedback to other mechanics and management regarding proactive steps to take to prevent breakdown or disruptive issues while vehicles are in service.
Serves as an inspector and trouble-shooter to determine proper corrective maintenance procedures prior to attempting repairs. Is proficient in using all tools and test equipment normally used during maintenance and inspection; is proficient in repairs, electrical, computerized engine controls, hydraulic, coolant and lubricant systems, transmissions and air-conditioning systems.
1. Performs all vehicle inspections and repairs as directed by Shop Supervisor or Director of Maintenance.
2. Trouble-shoots, services and repairs air-conditioning systems and components.
3. Inspects, trouble-shoots and repairs interior lighting, pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic cooling and lubricating systems.
4. Assists and instructs the "B" and "C" mechanics whenever it is necessary.
5. Performs related duties as necessary or special assignments as directed
Knowledge of: CNG engine, Electrical, air brakes system, fire suppression system, Lift-U wheel chair, Thermo King.Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
Work experience: Three to five years directly related experience.
Licensure: Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B minimum. Must obtain Class B License within three months of hire.

- Must be proficient in the correct and safe use of all hand tools normally used in the trade for optimum level of performance.
- Must posses own toolbox with job related tools.
- Must be capable of using special testing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Must be proficient in the operation of machinery and equipment.
- Must use protective equipment in conjunction with some activities.
- Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B minimum or be able obtain Class B License within two months of hire.
Periodic Adjustments: Periodic adjustments to the hourly rate are contingent upon that employee meeting certain milestones pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the contract between Sunline Transit Agency and the Amalgamated Transit Union.
