Sunny Farms has grown from a seasonal fruit stand into a second-generation full-service grocery with farming and cattle operations both on the Dungeness and in Othello, WA. Known for its emphasis on natural foods, farm-fresh produce and beef, Sunny Farms is looking for candidates who thrive in ‘non corporate’, fast-paced, customer-focused team environments.
Position Summary
We are looking for an energetic and creative culinary individual with leadership experience to direct a staff of twenty-plus full and part-time employees in a high-volume deli. The successful individual must have a passion for ‘the detail in retail’ and possess a sense of urgency in completion of tasks thus inspiring the desire to come together as a cohesive team. Teach employees through example and share our interest in natural ingredients and wholesome prepared foods.
Requirements
- Language Skills.
o Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of the management staff.
o Read, analyze and interpret general business documents.
o Write reports and business correspondence.
o Bi-lingual Spanish can be helpful with some of our staff.
- Education and/or Experience.
o Minimum of five years (7 or more preferred) managing a full-service deli management, or in similar environment.
o Supervisory experience interviewing, hiring, training and performance evaluations.
o Knowledge of natural foods industry trends.
o Basic financial concepts relating to sales, cost of goods and margins.
- Professional image and demeanor
- Mathematical Skills.
o Perform basic mathematical skills to manage a profitable operation including concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
o Perform mathematical skills using monetary units, weight measurement and volume.
- Reasoning Skills.
o Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions in written or oral form. Solve practical problems while dealing with a variety of variables in unexpected situations.

- Computer Skills.
o Rudimentary skill level in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
o Develop proficiency in our POS system.
- Certificates of Completion
o Valid WA state Food Handler’s Permit
o Certified Food Protection Manager certification w/i 6 months of hire.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safety and highest quality of all deli products by monitoring storage conditions, proper rotation, temperatures, and shelf life.
- Manage margins, COGs and overall department profitability including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
- Promote sales through active discussions with customers, offering product recommendations, discussing current promotions and assisting customers locate any product throughout the store.
- Maintain displays, aisles and storage areas in a clean orderly condition which satisfies the Health Department and store safety standards.
- Follow all health code and safety procedures and cleaning procedures by educating and assisting the staff.
- Hire, train, and schedule to keep a fully stocked and rotated department. Coordinate and participate in moving freight, hanging tags, cleaning, pricing, ordering regular and seasonal products and taking inventory.
- Provide on-the-job training to new personnel ensuring they learn exceptional customer service and the proper (safe) operation of the following equipment: meat slicer, telephone/paging system, cardboard baler and any other small equipment or tools used by the deli department.
- Promote ideas to increase efficiency and productivity within the deli. Identify strengths and support the development of associates who show promise or interest in increased responsibility. Set the example of the employee you would want to work alongside.
- Handle cashier/register functions, address customer complaints and cover shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks as necessary.
