Job Title: Comptroller
Department: Administration 
Supervisor: Chief Financial Officer

Summary
The Comptroller at Sunny Glen Children’s Home will be responsible for the oversight of financial operations, budgeting, compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, and financial reporting. The role requires significant experience in nonprofit financial management, exceptional leadership abilities, and a deep commitment to advancing the organization's mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
•    Financial Management and Oversight: Oversee and manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
•    Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
•    Develop and maintain internal financial controls and policies.
•    Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the development of annual budgets in collaboration with program directors and senior leadership.
•    Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis with recommendations to address discrepancies.
•    Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the executive team and/or the Board of Directors.
•    Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as grant and donor requirements.
•    Coordinate and oversee annual audits and preparation of Form 990 filings.
•    Strategic Planning and Leadership: Provide financial insights to support strategic decision-making and organizational growth.
•    Collaborate with senior leadership to align financial goals with the organization’s mission and long-term objectives.
•    Serve as a mentor and leader to the finance team, fostering professional growth and development.
•    Responsible for billing and cost reporting.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field is required.

Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices and GAAP.

Proficiency with financial management software and systems (e.g., Blackbaud, QuickBooks).

Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Proven ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.

Experience managing federal or private grants.

Knowledge of financial reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations (Form 990 and other filings).

Language Skills 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills 
Arithmetic and Algebra: Ability to handle calculations for payroll, reconciliations, and general ledger entries.

Data Analysis: Proficiency in analyzing financial data, identifying trends, and interpreting complex numerical information.

Statistical Analysis: Basic understanding of statistics for forecasting and performance metrics.
Fractions, Percentages, and Ratios: Essential for budgeting, expense tracking, and financial reporting.

Cost Analysis and Variance Calculations: Understanding budget variances and providing corrective recommendations.

Depreciation Calculations: Managing fixed asset schedules and compliance.

Cash Flow Projections: Estimating and tracking financial inflows and outflows.
Time Value of Money Concepts: Useful for managing investments, reserve funds, or grant allocations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 
Valid Texas Driver's License with an excellent driving record
Have a record of tuberculosis screening showing the employee is free of contagious TB.
