Summary
The Director of Finance (DOF) will be a strategic and operational leader, responsible for managing the financial integrity of the organization while contributing to its overall growth and mission-driven success. The DOF will oversee finance, accounting, compliance, and risk management functions, ensuring the organization maintains sound financial practices. They will work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership to provide financial insights that guide strategic decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
•    Financial Strategy and Planning: Lead the development and implementation of the organization's financial strategy aligned with mission-driven goals.
•    Provide financial analysis and insights to guide executive leadership and the Board of Directors in decision-making.
•    Manage long-term financial forecasting, investment strategies, and reserve planning.
•    Financial Operations and Reporting: Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
•    Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
•    Prepare and present accurate financial reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
•    Oversee grant and donor fund accounting, ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements.
•    Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the development of the annual operating budget in collaboration with department heads.
•    Monitor and report on budget performance, providing variance analysis and recommendations.
•    Ensure sound financial forecasting to support programmatic and organizational growth.
•    Risk and Compliance Management: Develop and oversee internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure financial accuracy.
•    Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and nonprofit tax filings (e.g., Form 990).
•    Lead and manage the organization’s annual external audit process.
•    Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team.
•    Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
•    Build relationships with program leaders to promote financial literacy and resource alignment.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

Some senior financial leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector preferred

Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, GAAP, and compliance requirements.

Proficiency in financial management systems and tools (e.g., Blackbaud, QuickBooks, Financial Edge).

Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic planning.

Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to present complex financial data to diverse audiences, including the Board of Directors and program leaders.

CPA, CMA, or MBA  preferred.

Experience managing federal, state, or private grants.

Familiarity with investment management strategies for nonprofits.

Knowledge of tax compliance and nonprofit reporting requirements, including Form 990.

Language Skills 
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills 
Budgeting and Forecasting: Project revenues, expenses, and cash flow for strategic planning.

Variance Analysis: Identify and analyze budget discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

Interest Rate Calculations: Manage loans, investment returns, and funding requirements.

Financial Modeling: Create complex models for scenario planning and long-term strategy development.
Statistical Analysis: Evaluate performance metrics and conduct risk assessments.
Investment Analysis: Assess portfolio returns, risk levels, and financial projections.

Break-even Analysis: Evaluate the sustainability of projects and programs.

Cost-Benefit Analysis: Assess the financial impact of decisions on organizational resources.

Probability and Risk Assessment: Forecast financial risks and opportunities.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 
Valid Texas Driver's License 
Have a record of tuberculosis screening showing the employee is free of contagious TB.
