What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Maintenance Worker position at Sunray Independent School District?
Primary Purpose: Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist with maintenance of grounds.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Valid Texas driver’s license, CDL preferred (or willing to obtain)
Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of basic routine maintenance and repair procedures. Ability to communicate effectively (verbally). Ability to operate hand and power tools. Ability to work independently.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair: Assist skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities; including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, outlets, fixtures, and motors; painting; repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures and draining systems; and replacing broken glass. Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment; perform maintenance and minor repairs and report any major problems to Operations Director. Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment. Change filters and troubleshoot all A/C units. Complete repairs as requested on work orders or by Operations Director. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
Vehicle: Operate light trucks to transport furniture, equipment and to perform responsibilities and duties throughout the district. Ability to keep organized and clean when possible. Report service issues to Operations Director.
Bus Driving: If you have or obtain a CDL Class B plus the endorsements required, you will be required to fill in or drive routes, extracurricular trips, etc.
Safety: Operate equipment, tools and vehicle following established safety and law procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Maintain tools, equipment, vehicle and perform preventive maintenance as required.
Working Conditions: Continual walking, standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying; climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside. Exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, and orders. Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles.
