Job Summary: Direct Support Professional
Come work for a friendly fun organization providing top notch care to Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The Direct Support Professional (DSP) initiates and provides direct care to all residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SCLs team of direct support employees actively engage residents to assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) that support each resident’s Plan of care. The DSP works within the home as well as outside the home in supporting activities in the community. DSPs are responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all residents while fostering a positive home environment. Additional duties may include cleaning of living areas, food preparation, doing laundry, participating in training, teaching life skills, facilitating enrichment activities, assisting resident’s budget, and conducting business affairs. This position requires clear communication skills to ensure that all resident needs, issues, and activities are understood by the Staff throughout all shifts. While all DSPs report to the Residential Program Administrator, the DSP position requires an intrinsically motivated person that works collaboratively with a varying degree of independence. DSPs are an integral position that actively supports our residents in pursuing their Plan of Care goals related to community activities, social interactions, essential life skills, and personal hygiene tasks.
Compensation:
$300-340 / Day
Schedule:
Full Time – 24 Hour Rotational Shift. 3 days on 4 days off or 4 days on 3 days off.
Potential for additional hours when available.
Responsibilities and Job Duties:
1. Provides direct care to residents:
a. Assistance with Activities of Daily Living, as defined by AS 47.33.990.
b. Clean and maintain living areas during shifts
c. Food preparation
d. Doing laundry
e. Enrichment activities
f. Teaching essential life skills
2. Documents accurately services rendered to each resident within their individual digital file daily.
3. Actively communicates with Residential Program Administrator, residents, and fellow staff members.
4. Gains familiarity with resident’s Plan of Care and utilizes it to guide each resident’s individual needs and goals.
5. Manage household and medical emergencies, as needed.
Required Qualifications and Skill Set:
· Minimum of 18 years of age
· High School Diploma or GED required
· Experience or education working within the IDD community and able to demonstrate abilities to the Administrator prior to working with the residents
· Proficiency in the English language and able to communicate orally and in writing
· Valid Alaska driver license with a clean driving record and proof of insurance
· Ability to pass a criminal background check
· Proof of negative TB test
· Current CPR and First Aid certification
Preferred Qualifications
· 6 months social service / life experience with individual(s) who experiences an intellectual or developmental disability
· Basic computer skills
Additional Requirements:
- Successful clearance of local and/or state background checks
- Ability to lift 35 lbs, or 1/3 of body weight, whichever is less, on a regular basis
- Ability to provide personal and professional references prior to offer of employment
- Complete 12 hours of continuing education relevant to employment
- Reliable mode of transportation to and from work shifts
