What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Wellness Coordinator position at Sunrise Day Camp?
Sunrise Day Camp, for children ages 3 ½ - 16, is the only dedicated full summer day camp in the world for children with cancer and their siblings. It is a camp designed to meet the emotional, social, recreational and physical needs of these children while allowing them to enjoy the comforts and safety of their own homes at night.
Sunrise Day Camp offers a full, multi-week summer activity program plus year- round camp-like programs. These additional programs take place at our campgrounds and other locations that provide exclusive use of their facilities. Additionally, our in-hospital program Sunrise On Wheels allows children to experience “camp” in the hospital by providing activities for those who are awaiting treatment.
Best of all, Sunrise Day Camp is offered free of charge to all children being treated for cancer and their siblings on a non-sectarian basis. By raising the needed funds from outside sources instead of charging the parents, we can help to alleviate some of the costs, and the related stress, that parents incur caring for a sick child throughout the year. Children who have received medical clearance from their physicians are welcome to attend. Though 7.5 weeks of camp programming is offered, children may register and attend any and every day they feel well enough to do so.
Staff Position
Sunrise Day Camp is actively hiring individuals to serve as a Wellness Coordinator. We are looking for individuals who are mature, responsible, energetic, creative and excited to make a tremendous impact in the lives of our children.
Camp will run from June 30th - August 15th, 2025, with mandatory training sessions throughout June. Dates are TBD.
Wellness Coordinator Role:
Wellness Coordinators are responsible for day-to-day operations and communications within the wellness center and between nurses/EMTs. They keep track of inventory, laundry, stocking and organization, and play with and/or monitor children in wellness center for reasons that do not require RN oversight. Coordinators transcribe nurses notes in daily notebooks into Campminder individual charts as outlined throughout this document.
Our staff works with children between the ages of 3 ½ and 16 for up to seven and a half weeks. Staff positions commonly involve being with children for the full length of the camp day, from camper arrival at 9:30 AM until 3:45 PM. Because our camper population may have greater emotional and physical needs, and because staff stays in close proximity with the campers, the experience is demanding. It is critical that staff members are attentive to children, their individual needs and concerns, and demonstrate a willingness to do more than their share.
