About Sunrise: Since 2015, Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center is the largest provider of homeless services in Travis County! We offer pathways to housing for people experiencing homelessness through low-barrier access to wraparound services by providing innovative, trauma-informed, and person-centered programming that engages our communities and leads system-wide transformation. Through the Sunrise Hub day center, Sunrise Hotline call center, Sunrise Mobile outreach and shelter services, and Sunrise Housing program we served more than 19,000 people experiencing homelessness in 2024.
Job Title: Volunteer and Events Coordinator
Position Status: Part-Time
Compensation: $2,990.00 to $3,500.00 per month, 30 - 32hrs wk, paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave
Location: In-person Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 2:30 pm with limited flexibility and designated work from home time, first Saturday of the month 8:30 am - 2:30 pm
Position Summary: The Volunteer and Events Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention efforts for individual and group volunteers across the Sunrise system, including but not limited to the Sunrise Cafe, Sunrise Shop, Sunrise Mail, Sunrise Hotline, and Sunrise special events. Additionally, this position will coordinate in-kind donations, supply drive events and speaking requests from community partners, individuals, and faith-based groups while ensuring excellent data tracking.
Position Qualifications:
- Degree or certificate in a relevant field such as Hospitality, Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Business Administration, Social Work, or a related discipline preferred
- 1 year of experience in volunteer management, community engagement, events, or a related area preferred
- Proven track record of successful events
- Proficiency in volunteer and donor management software (Bloomerang, Give Pulse)
- Passion for Sunrise’s mission and clients

- Detail-oriented team player who excels at multitasking and organization
- Excellent time management skills with minimal supervision
- Clear and prompt written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort and proficiency with technology, including computer skills for data management and communication (GivePulse, Google Workspace, OneCause, Mailchimp, Hootsuite)
- Calm and professional demeanor toward clients, volunteers, and staff in unpredictable situations
- Thrives in a dynamic environment, adapting to changes in schedules, partnerships, tasks, and responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:
Volunteer & Event Management
- Develop and manage individual and group volunteer programs, ensuring all volunteer shifts are filled based on the identified minimum coverage
- Maintain the volunteer database, ensuring accurate scheduling and reporting
- Communicate with volunteers, ensuring engagement and appreciation efforts
- Support donor and volunteer events through volunteer recruitment and logistics
- Track and report key engagement metrics related to events and outreach efforts
In-Kind Donations Management
- Oversee donated supplies programs, ensuring efficient collection and distribution
- Track and report on donated supplies, supply drive events, and community partnerships
Marketing & Communications
- Support Sunrise’s marketing and communications plan and goals to effectively communicate the Sunrise’s impact and mission
- Assist in writing and scheduling email campaigns, newsletters, and social media content for volunteer and event initiatives
- Support storytelling by collecting impact stories, volunteer testimonials, and success narratives to support engagement efforts
Database & Project Management
- Develop, implement, and evaluate volunteer database systems (GivePulse) to ensure accurate and timely data collection, coding, analysis, reporting, and acknowledgment for volunteers
- Accurately record and manage job-related tasks in project management system (Asana)
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Collaborate with the operations department on a weekly basis to align operational activities (to include, but not limited to logistics, supply tracking and purchasing, monitoring of program budget and expenses) with community engagement initiatives
- Collaborate with other departments as needed
- Participate in joint meetings and planning sessions to ensure cohesive and integrated efforts
Position Considerations:
- The Volunteer and Events Coordinator is required to attend staff meetings
- The Volunteer and Events Coordinator will support Sunrise’s goal to infuse diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in everything we do
- The Volunteer and Events Coordinator frequently moves boxes weighing up to 50 pounds across the Sunrise Hub for various needs
- The Volunteer and Events Coordinator must be able to remain in an ongoing moving position during the majority of the work shift
- The Volunteer and Events Coordinator consistently works in outdoor weather conditions
- The Volunteer and Events Coordinator must maintain a safe work environment and confidentiality regarding donors' and volunteers' personal information at all times
