Job Duties
- Supervising the maintenance and repair of construction and golf course maintenance equipment.
- Managing and maintaining golf course properties, which includes: the golf course, maintenance equipment, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage and areas outside the perimeter, and other area as specified by the Director of Golf
- Coordinate operations with the Head Golf Professional and participate in all long-range planning meetings.
- Coordinate any construction, renovation and/or reconstruction of golf course, whether performed by golf maintenance staff or outside contractors.
- Prepares the annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of course properties. The superintendent formulates the annual maintenance and capital budgets so as to implement policies established in accordance with the long-range plan and defined maintenance standards.
- Exercises cost control measures to keep, as nearly as possible, operating and capital expenses in line with the approved budgets.
- Responsible for inventory control and equipment maintenance programs.
- Interviews, hires, trains and supervises a staff of team members for the purpose of maintaining the golf course.
- Plans all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals.
- Oversees the scheduling and routing of team members and equipment to accomplish the work. The superintendent frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
- Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and property.
- Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
- Communicates regularly with other members of the top management group to discuss activities, goals, plans and member/customer input.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment when evaluating new programs, new services and new ideas
- Stay abreast of property goals in order to create, support and present departmental goals to executive leadership
- Continue to learn and be on the forefront of new technology for the hotel industry
- Create ways to further enrich the guest experience by continuously reviewing, implementing and refining procedures to ensure every opportunity to offer extraordinary guest experiences while maintaining a culture of smiles, retention of luxury standards
- Proactively seek guest feedback and liaise with other departments when opportunities present themselves ensuring a seamless and elevated guest experience
- Manage guest requests and own all complaints; resolve issues immediately and follow up to ensure the guest’s satisfaction
- Develop collaborative relationships and synergy with all support departments such as Convention Sales & Services, Facilities, Security, Front Services, Front Office, F&B, Golf Course and Executive Offices
- Foster a management team that possesses and delivers on key strategies of guest service, employee relations, team cooperation, financial responsibility and asset management
- Ensure all accounting, payroll and employee relations matters are handled in compliance with company policy
- Perform other functions as needed

- Minimum 3-5 years in a Golf Course Superintendent role with previous supervisory experience in a club or golf course setting
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods; and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- Knowledge of current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations
- Florida Pesticide Applicators License in good standing
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to function well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet established deadlines
- Must possess mature personal discretion and sound judgment
- Strong leadership abilities, sound judgment, superior problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent organizational, analytical and project management skills, with particular attention to quality and detail
- Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
