Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor is currently searching for a Risk & Safety Officer!
The Risk and Safety Officer is responsible for assisting with the implementation of an effective fire prevention and life safety program and will prepare, establish, enforce, and monitor fire safety as well as life safety policies that will create and maintain a safe environment for our guests and our team members. The Risk and Safety Officer will assess fire risks at all resort properties and ensure the workplace meets all compliance expectations and actively supports occupational health and fire safety. This team member will also assist with the monitoring of fire safety compliance, fire prevention training programs, analyze and prepare detailed briefings concerning fire safety issues, and report progress to superiors.
All duties are performed in accordance with department and Sunseeker Resorts policies, practices, and procedures.
Job Duties
- Works to ensure the proper execution of the overall fire safety and fire prevention plans for the Sunseeker Resort and the Aileron Golf Club.
- Work with the Risk & Safety Manager to implement an emergency action plan to cover known and potential fire risks, identify any hazardous materials that will be located and stored on Sunseeker properties, and identify known and potential emergency medical situations that should be anticipated.
- Act as liaison with local and state fire officials, OSHA, local EMA officials and any other applicable outside/government city/state agencies.
- Work with the Risk & Safety Manager to regularly inspect equipment and machinery on all Sunseeker properties to identify and correct possible unsafe practices or unsafe conditions to ensure compliance with applicable OSHA guidelines and standards. This will include “lock out/tag out” procedures as well as “confined space” safety procedures.
- Identify the fire and/or safety hazards to the department head where the hazards were found and work to correct the violations by working together to implement “action plan” to recommend solutions and ways to prevent the problem from reoccurring in the future.
- Maintain a written log of fire safety inspection activities, reports, and correspondence. All documentation concerning fire safety compliance, potential fire prevention issues, fire hazards and recommended solutions will be prepared in a detailed, written report and sent to Sunseeker management.
- Ensure compliance with all local and state fire codes, including the National Fire Protection Association, Florida State Fire Codes, and OSHA regulations.
- Work with local fire department agencies to uphold “pre-fire” plans ensuring firefighters are knowledgeable with all building construction, fire hydrant locations, available water supply, entry & exit fire doors, fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, and hazardous materials stored on site.
- Work with local fire department agencies to uphold “hazardous materials response plan” in the event of a leak, spill or other accident resulting in the release of a hazardous substance used and stored on any Sunseeker property.
- Maintain library of “SDS” listing all hazardous materials used and stored on any Sunseeker property and ensure library is up to date.
- Participate in team meetings with department managers to seek “feedback” and address concerns regarding fire safety & prevention within their respective department.
- Conduct regular fire safety and prevention inspections of all areas of the Sunseeker Resort and the Aileron Golf Club in ensure compliance with general fire safety and prevention practices. Also conduct “unannounced” fire inspections as needed.
- Participate in internal fire safety & prevention audits and review and maintain accurate records of such audits.
Requirements
Combination of Education and Experience will be considered. Sunseeker Resorts performs criminal background checks on all candidates. - High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum (2) years of experience in Fire Safety, Risk Safety or equivalent field.
- 21 years of age or older
- Certification in Fire Safety or Risk Management preferred
- OSHA 10 card and OSHA 30 card in good standing preferred
- Previous experience as an EMT a plus
- CRP/AED certification a plus

- Ability to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to work as a “Dedicated Emergency Worker” staffed during hurricane/ emergency events.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
