Shipping Manager Job Description
Job Title: Shipping Manager
Department: Shipping/Receiving
Reports to: General Manager
Summary: Responsible for general supply inventory, warehouse cleanliness, all drivers, and fleet activities.
Note: In the absence or incapacity of the Shipping Manager, their duties and responsibilities will be undertaken by the Shipping Assistant Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage shipping and warehouse personnel with continuous improvements.
- Maintain accurate count of all Shipping/Receiving inventory items.
- Track supply movement between warehouse and plant, update office daily.
- Place replenishment orders as needed.
- Ensure trash and rendering removal meets plant needs. Monitor pickups.
- Ensure the complete daily inspection of pallet jacks and lift trucks as needed.
- Utilize fork-lift and stand-up lift to unload vendor deliveries following SOPs.
- Perform minor maintenance on pallet jacks and forklifts.
- Relocate empty barrels from plant to yard as needed.
- Keep suggestion box stocked.
- Must adhere to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and HACCP pre-requisite programs, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure (SSOP) guidelines or Federal regulations.
- Fulfill orders using proper rotation of products keeping in mind customer date requirements.
- Receive products and ensure proper storage.
- Perform daily inventory cycle counts and monthly counts.
- Report to plant manager or maintenance any issues with physical condition of warehouse and equipment.
- Calculate and report shipping performance.
- Properly document incoming and outgoing shipments, and handling and disposition of materials.
- Ensure materials and equipment are staged for production.
- Oversee food safety requirements and notify Q/A of any non-conforming conditions or products.
- Maintain department’s cleanliness, organization and safety.
- Train and certify personnel on material handling equipment (pallet jacks and forklifts).
- Order pallets and return bad pallets.
- Setup CHEP pallet returns.
- Perform and log daily leaker checks.
- Handle order pickups for walk-in customers.
- Advise production of needs for products in Save-a-Lot boxes.
- Review load sheets before turned in to office.
- Track all QA tags.
- Maintain segregation of products in allergen area.
Transportation Responsibilities:
- Ensure drivers and equipment are performing as necessary to provide on-time service.
- Ensure all fleet maintenance programs are current on trucks, tractors, and trailers.
- Maintain driver results by training, coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring and appraising job results.
- Conduct driver meetings as required.
- Confirm drivers are operating in accordance with DOT regulations to include driver logs, driver hours, ELDs, accident reporting and investigation, and monitoring of DOT website.
- Train and certify personnel on material handling equipment (pallet jacks and forklifts).
- Monitor and maintain DVIRs (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports), both pre-trip and post trip.
- Determine delivery routes and dispatch drivers, accordingly, optimizing efficiencies in time and cost.
- Review off-hours actions by shipping and driver personnel on the video system.
- Monitor Verizon Connect for driver delivery and safety performance.
Other duties assigned as required.
Qualifications: Individuals must meet the requirements listed below and perform each essential function satisfactorily. Requirements are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). All personnel will receive HACCP, Pre-requisite program, GMP’s and SSOP program training prior to entering plant operations. Must be able to read scales, have basic computer skills, operate stand-up lift and forklift.
Language Skills: Able to read, analyze and interpret procedure sheets, product labels, training and safety material provided by company. Must effectively communicate with co-workers and management.
Physical Demands: Stand, squat, stoop down, twist for entire shift, reach with arms, Lift 70 lbs. from floor to waist height. Climb 6 ft stepladder. Move pallets ranging from 600 – 2500 lbs. during shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: Characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing essential functions of this job. Individuals are exposed to dry conditions, temperatures below 45 degrees or above 90 degrees F and concrete floors. Noise levels are usually moderate.
