We’re currently seeking an Assistant Controller to support our financial operations while also taking an active role in HR and payroll administration. This is a key position for someone who enjoys variety in their work, wants to grow with a company, and is passionate about both numbers and people. The Assistant Controller will report directly to the VP of Finance/Controller and work in a location with a team of approximately 40 employees.
What You'll Be Doing:
Accounting & Financial Support
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements, including reconciliations, journal entries, and fixed asset tracking.
- Support budgeting and forecasting efforts in coordination with department managers.
- Help analyze financial performance, costs, and variances to provide useful insights to leadership.
- Ensure accurate general ledger postings and maintain well-organized financial records.
- Help implement and maintain internal controls to support audit readiness and compliance.
HR & Payroll Responsibilities
- Administer payroll processing and ensure timely and accurate pay cycles.
- Maintain employee records, manage onboarding/offboarding, and support benefits administration.
- Assist HR with tasks and coordinate with outside vendors as needed.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with the VP of Finance/Controller and leadership team to provide operational and financial support.
- Assist with implementation of the new ERP system in coordination with operations and finance.
- Partner with department leads and assist in building efficient processes across accounting, HR, and operations.
- Support other administrative and office-related functions as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience: 5 years of accounting experience, with exposure to HR and/or payroll responsibilities. Prior experience in transportation, logistics, or a related industry is a plus.
- Skills & Systems: Solid understanding of accounting principles and payroll systems. Experience with QuickBooks is preferred. Proficiency in Excel, accounting software, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Attention to Detail: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, helpful attitude.

Salary : $85,000 - $115,000
