Logistics and Safety Manager
The Logistics and Safety Manager will be responsible for complete oversight of the profitability and productivity of the Sunset Cartage fleet. This includes Logistics Supervisors, Logistics Representatives, and indirect management of all Drivers. Daily tasks include monitoring the daily operations, maintaining, and tracking all trucks within the fleet, knowledge of daily assignments of company trucks and IMCs, tracking customer job assignments, ensuring customer satisfaction and delivery of services. This role will also oversee the development of all safety programs in accordance with applicable federal, state and location regulations. Developing, monitoring and evaluation and improvement surrounding safety and compliance matters, working with applicable staff around disciplinary action, inspections and reporting requirements are being met in areas of DOT incidents, and navigation of such matters with the Safety Advisory board and in connection with DOT requirements.
Responsibilities Include:
· Work diligently with Operations Management, Sales, and the Logistics Dispatch team to oversee Logistics operations and ensure delivery of services and meeting customer demands
· Assist in all aspects of logistics operations as needed including driver communication, monitoring dispatching services and serving as a last line of defense for fulfilling customer services.
· Creating a culture of high-level communication between Logistics dispatch staff and customers and drivers regarding operational challenges, updates, and ETAs in a professional and timely manner.
· Maintain constant inventory of truck fleet including trucks that need drivers, trucks out of service, number of trucks in the fleet currently being used on a day-to-day basis, and those not being utilized due to driver absence, PTO, and work injuries.
· Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve written safety and compliance protocols for DOT including conducting of personnel training and guidance in all areas of safety.
· Investigate and bring to conclusions all safety-related incidents including working with applicable authorities, insurance companies, The safety advisory board, applicable staff, HR, and supervisors regarding disciplinary steps.
· Through electronic and other means, ensure compliance with Electronic Driver Log requirements and driver inspection reports (DVIR) processes for both drivers and shop operations. Establish company driver truck safe operating procedures and ensure daily monitoring or electronic truck safety tools (I.e., speeding, hard braking, hard turns, etc.) Based on findings, work with supervisors (and HR as needed) to evaluate driver performance in these areas and ensure proper corrective action/discipline is taken. Routinely audit DVIR compliance.
· Maintain all reporting and inspection requirements with DOT.
· Manager regulatory required company drug testing procedures in coordination with HR and applicable supervisors
· Other duties as assigned
