Description
The SMP Grounds Crew team member is responsible for preparation and completion of all burial properties at the cemetery. Duties also include the care and maintenance of facilities and grounds. This role is physically demanding, and most tasks are performed outside.
- Operate, maintain and store company equipment and vehicles safely and efficiently
- Clean up trash, leaves and debris throughout the park and other FRENCH locations
- Perform general landscaping and care of buildings, turf areas, walkways and planting beds
- Prepare, maintain and close all burial properties as needed
- Provide outstanding customer service to families, vendors and employees
- Participate in construction, development, repair, and maintenance of special projects as assigned
- Able to understand and follow all established procedures and instructions, both written and verbal
- Adhere to company dress code, including wearing protective clothing when necessary
- Conduct personal behavior with respect and courtesy to others
- Assure documentation and records are accurate and complete
- Assist other business units when needs arise
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL
This job operates in a public environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
- Accommodate extensive lifting-up to 100 pounds from ground to 36” and able to carry this weight lift up to 20 pounds over the head and back down for up to 4 hours at a time
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to wear protective gear as required by OSHA and/or the company
- Maintain a respectful and a calm demeanor when interacting with families and co-workers
- Safely operate all company equipment and vehicles
- Work with various chemicals, and exposure to dust, pollen, water, and other organic debris
- Climb ladders, working in high places, reaching above head,
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM
- High school diploma or equivalent education preferred
- Prior experience with the use, maintenance and repair of tractors, mowers and hand-held power equipment desirable
- Experience in landscape or grounds maintenance a plus
- Prior back-hoe experience a plus
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- One or two years of landscape or grounds maintenance experience
- Previous leadership experience preferred
MINIMUM
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance provider
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to read and understand instructions; written and verbal
- Ability to relay task instructions to co-workers
- Ability to understand and speak English
- Analyze situations/problems and take appropriate action steps
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
