What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solar Field Technician position at SunShift LLC?
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Field Technician to join our team specializing in the removal and reinstallation of solar panels. In this role, you will be responsible for safely disassembling and reinstalling solar panel systems, ensuring all work is performed according to industry standards and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with solar panel systems, possess excellent problem-solving skills, and have a strong commitment to safety.
- Safely and efficiently remove solar panels from various installations while disconnecting electrical components and wiring according to industry codes. Ensure equipment is handled carefully for reinstallation or proper disposal.
- Install solar panels, racking systems and electrical components ensuring proper alignment, wiring and connections with the installation team. Conduct post-installation testing to verify system functionality and optimal operation.
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to maintain a safe working environment, using appropriate PPE when working at heights or with electrical systems. Ensure compliance with local building codes, electrical codes and solar industry standards.
- Maintain and operate tools and equipment related to solar panel removal and installation. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on equipment as needed.
- Accurately document all work completed, including removal, reinstallation, and any issues encountered. Complete and submit work orders, time sheets, and other necessary reports in a timely manner.
- Interact with clients in a professional and courteous manner during visits. Address any client concerns regarding the removal, reinstallation, or performance of the solar panel system.
Experience:
- Proven experience in solar panel installation, removal, or maintenance.
- Familiarity with solar electrical systems, wiring, and inverter technology.
- Previous experience working at heights and handling large, delicate equipment is preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, solar technologies, and safety protocols.
- Ability to operate power tools and specialized equipment for removal and installation.
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to solar systems.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and on rooftops or elevated platforms.
Certifications (preferred, but not required):
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification or other solar-related certifications.
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and work in physically demanding conditions.
- Comfort with heights and working on ladders or scaffolding.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail.
Driver’s License:
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record required to drive company vehicles to job sites.
