Client Summary: Our client is a federal-level transportation company that is looking for a controller, who is responsible for the overall management of the Accounting Department. The Controller plans and directs the overall financial activities related to client’s Accounting and Financial Reporting functions; including Payroll, Fixed Assets, Financial Analysis and Accounting.
Position Summary: The successful candidate must have MBA or CPA, and have at least 5 years of accounting experience with 2 years of supervisory experience.
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Responsibilities
· Oversee the Accounting Department and related close processes, including Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and Financial Analysis.
· Establish and implement accounting policies, procedures, and practices in compliance with GAAP and funding partner requirements.
· Analyze financial statements, provide direction to staff, and ensure adherence to performance standards through effective oversight of subordinate managers and supervisors.
· Supervise Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable, A/R Staff, and Financial Analysts.
· Manage the preparation of financial reports (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, budget variance reports).
· Maintain fiscal records and systems, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
· Recommend, design, and implement departmental controls and procedures.
· Reconcile general ledger accounts and oversee adjustments as needed.
· Lead CLIENT’s financial and compliance audits, including external and internal reviews.
· Provide financial policy guidance to departments and address budget-related inquiries.
· Ensure compliance with CLIENT’s Records Management Policy and Environmental Policy, providing training and tools as required.
· Support documentation for audits and reviews (e.g., FTA triennial, drug and alcohol, EEO, state audits).
· Utilize tools and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, PS Finance, nVision, and ECHO.
Minimum Qualifications
· Undergraduate degree in accounting, business administration or finance required
· Minimum of 5 years of experience and 2 years of supervisory experience
· Must have MBA, CPA, or CMA
· Required knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, especially as it relates to enterprise fund accounting, general ledger, grants accounting, fixed assets accounting, financial reporting, and monthly close procedures.
· Advanced Level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, Vlookups, and logical analysis statements to aid in analyzing data are required.
