JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Bus Driver
Classification: Part-time, Permanent, Non-exempt
Department: Transportation
Designation: Safety Sensitive*
Job Summary
The Bus Driver transports preschoolers to and from school, following a predetermined route with attention to a time schedule. This individual assumes responsibility for the safety of children during the route and loading and unloading. The employee works a split shift providing transportation for children in the morning and afternoon.
It is essential that they demonstrate professionalism, a respect for confidentiality and a commitment to the agency's mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform daily pre and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
2. Maintain accurate daily trip sheets and billing documentation.
3. Maintain discipline on assigned bus at all times and monitor bus aide regarding fulfillment of bus duties.
4. Perform Child Safety Check System at the completion of each trip.
5. Maintain child seats and ensure proper installation.
6. Recommend needed changes in schedules to provide safe service to children.
7. Keep Transportation and Facilities Manager advised of mechanical problems.
8. Notify Transportation and Facilities Manager of any delays in scheduled routes.
9. Accurately and effectively communicate detailed information to varied groups and individuals.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Maintain a clean vehicle, sweeping, trash pickup and washing as needed.
2. Drive for field trips or other school outings as assigned.
3. Attend and complete required trainings.
4. Assist with other routes should breakdowns occur or in other emergency situations.
5. Other duties as assigned that support the agency’s mission.

Qualifications:
1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. Education requirements - high school diploma or GED.
3. Must be able to read and write English at a level sufficient to successfully perform required duties.
4. MVR must pass approval by agency insurance carrier.
5. DOT physical examination clearance.
6. Background clearance from the Child and Adult Abuse and Maltreatment Central Registry and Arkansas State Police criminal background check.
7. Meet agency’s drug screening requirements.
8. Essential physical and mental requirements to perform the duties of this position include:
Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness and concentrate for long periods of time. Regularly required to talk and hear. Regularly required to document information using a computer program and/or make handwritten notes. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Safely drive an 8 -12 passenger bus, transporting children. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, split shift a.m. and p.m. hours. This position is based on the annual in-center staff calendar. Additional hours/days may be required to meet the needs of the agency.
