The Nexus Water Group team has an opportunity for a Cross Connection Technician based in Longwood, FL. This role is responsible for protecting the public water supply from actual or potential contamination sources by ensuring appropriate backflow prevention devices are properly in use by residential, commercial, institutional, irrigation and industrial customers
What You'll Do
Essential Functions
- Performs field inspections of residential, commercial, institutional, irrigation and industrial accounts to identify actual or potential cross connections; assess degree of cross connection hazard; follows up in writing with customer regarding required backflow prevention device/assembly.
- Follows established procedure to notify customer of non-compliance prior to disconnection; immediately terminates customer’s service if high degree of hazard is found without sufficient backflow prevention device/assembly, with direction from the Manager.
- Disconnects service upon failure of the property owner to comply with the requirements of the company’s Cross Connection Program.
- Communicates to his Supervisor any follow-up or enforcement letters needed to maintain program integrity and objectives.
- Schedules work based on priority.
- Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
- Enforces compliance with the company’s Cross Connection Programs.
- Provides assistance to customers with questions regarding the Cross Connection Program.
- Independent travel daily to worksites in company supplied vehicle to carry out assigned tasks.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
- 1 – 3 years in water and/or wastewater utility operations or related field.
- HS Diploma or G.E.D.
- State of Florida certified Backflow Prevention & Water Licenses as appropriate or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment; state of Florida Distribution System Operator license, Level 3 or higher; valid driver’s license.
- MS Office suite of applications; Tokay backflow tracking software; ability to learn internal software applications., CC&B (within 6 months of hire).
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, vendors and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to learn the methods, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in cross connection control.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to repair and/or replace backflow prevention devices.
- Moderate to heavy physical activity including lifting (75 lbs.), walking, bending, climbing, digging; performing mechanical repairs; use of hand tools; completing meter exchanges; requires normal hearing and vision.
- Backflow testing devices; tablet and/or laptop; copy/fax/scan machine; telephone; other general office equipment. Operates a Company assigned motor vehicle.
- Frequent travel within assigned area is required.
- May include on-call duty, emergency response activities.
