Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator
Job Overview:
Sunstar Engineering Americas (SEA), a highly successfully manufacturer of automotive adhesives, sealants, and coating products, is seeking an experienced individual to join our team. A strong skill set coupled with a desire to learn and grow will allow for success in supporting the development, application and execution of safe work practices, employee safety training, proper waste disposal, and environmental awareness.
Essential Duties:
- Understand and apply the OSHA and EPA regulations as they apply to the workforce and workplace with guidance from the EHS team.
- Assist in the generation and application of safety programs throughout the facilities. These programs consist of hazard communication, control of energy (lockout/tagout), fall protection and machine guarding.
- Safely operate powered industrial vehicles and mobile elevated work platforms.
- Assist in developing and implementing employee awareness initiatives and safety training including ESQ, tool box and customer specific meetings.
- Conduct routine and follow-up safety and hazard inspection of facilities and properties. Present concerns and recommendations regarding potential and/or existing compliance issues with EHS team and departmental management.
- Identify and manage strategies to eliminate hazards when practical or reduce/minimize the health hazards and safety risks throughout the organization.
- Utilize analytical tools such as root cause analysis, value stream mapping, etc. to identify hazards and inefficiencies in the process. Based on these analyses present potential corrective actions which will eliminate or minimize the frequency of or hazard of common occurrences.
- Assist with the implementation of programs/initiatives (such as CANDO and ISO) throughout the organization.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data to calculate the health and safety performance metrics and statistics.
- Maintain certification as required by EHS regulations for hazardous waste disposal, hazardous materials transportation and powered industrial vehicle operation and training.
Responsibilities Include:
- Inventory management of safety supplies distributed through the vending machines.
- Inventory management of other (non-safety related) supplies used in production.
- Maintenance of Respiratory equipment (cleaning and repair)
- Maintenance of security equipment including internal and external cameras.
Skills/Abilities:
- Must be a strong communicator who enjoys engaging people and working in a team environment for the purpose of driving, maintaining and improving the safety culture.
- Possess the ability to work with little supervision.
- Take ownership of decisions and act with a sense of urgency.
- Demonstrate a commitment to resolve health and safety issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to perform heavy lifting, walk/stand for up to an eight-hour workday and function in a fast-paced environment consisting of heat, dust and dirt.
- Able to work different shifts from time to time to assist in safety and health monitoring and education.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Associates Degree in an Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental discipline and/or 5 years of experience working in safety in a manufacturing and/or chemical manufacturing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
This position is also required to perform other related duties as assigned by the department manager or president
