What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper position at SUNY Adirondack?
The duties of this class involve performance of a wide variety of tasks relating to the maintenance and/or landscaping of facility grounds and athletic fields; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-ranking employee who outlines general policy, usually leaving the details to be worked out independently. Does related work as required.Â
SUNY Adirondack has designated this position as an essential worker. Employees designated in their job description or by the President as essential to operation of the College during an identified period of time are required to work as scheduled or remain at work until released by their supervisor.
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school diploma.Â
Experience Requirements
Two years of experience in park or grounds maintenance activities.
Possession of an appropriate New York State DMV Operator's license at the time of appointment.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, which could include lifting up to 50 lbs.Â
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm

- Operates trucks, automobiles, air compressors, mowers, tractors, snow plows, and other motorized equipment in the performance of duties;
- Mows, rakes, and cuts grass;
- Keeps grounds free of litter;
- Plants and cares for trees, shrubs and plants;
- Removes snow and ice, and spreads sand and salt on walks, pathways, drives, parking lots and skating rinks;
- Fertilizes, seeds, and cultivates lawns and athletic fields;
- Participates in the preparation, lay out, building and maintenance of athletic fields, recreation equipment and other recreational areas;
- Hauls and spreads top soil, gravel, and related grounds keeping materials;
- Plants and cares for trees, shrubs, and plants;
- Performs minor equipment maintenance of lawnmowers, chainsaws, weed trimmers, line strippers, etc.;
- May install, maintain, repair and operate irrigation systems on grounds;Â
- May operate a truck or dump truck for plowing snow, spreading sand and salt, or any maintenance duties;
- Serves as general handyman performing a variety of semi-skilled duties;Â
- Performs minor maintenance tasks on equipment and buildings.
