What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Reference Librarian position at SUNY Adirondack?
Broad Function
A part-time librarian will collaborate with faculty to support teaching and learning across the academic curriculum through a variety of learning opportunities. The librarian will teach information literacy sessions, provide reference desk assistance, develop collections to support teaching and learning in the various academic disciplines, and stay current with emerging technologies.
Major Responsibilities
- Teach information literacy skills and provide research support to students, faculty, administrators and staff both in person and online
- Collaborate with faculty to teach information literacy, research and critical thinking skills in HRD100/110, English, and other courses as needed
- Act as library liaison to one or more academic departments, purchase materials and develop research guides in those subject areas
- Keep abreast of and implement emerging technologies as appropriate and communicate to staff, students and faculty
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Skills
- Demonstrated teaching and training experience
- Knowledge of information literacy standards, assessment, and curriculum development; ability to work with faculty and students to enhance information literacy skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in emerging technologies for academic libraries
- Analytic, problem solving and communication skills
- Flexibility in adapting to shifting needs and priorities

- Knowledge of emerging technologies in academic libraries
Educational Requirements
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited academic institution; OR be within 6 months of obtaining a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited academic institution; experience and knowledge of electronic information resources and technologies
Schedule:
22.5 hours per week, for 30 weeks during the Fall and Spring semesters. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 9am to 5pm
Some evening or weekend hours may be required.
