Job Summary:

The Department of Physiology/Pharmacology and Neurology in the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor (HS). The successful candidate will:

• Be provided with peer mentors and opportunities for leadership role.
• Be expected to build a collaborative, interdisciplinary research team supported by robust extramural funding that will lead to consequential contributions to scholarship and advancements in biomedicine.
• Be encouraged to interact with current Downstate neuroscience researchers in Physiology & Pharmacology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Psychiatry, and other departments, helping to make the institution more competitive for large collaborative institutional grants.
• Be expected to contribute to teaching and training of medical students in the College of Medicine and MD/PhD graduate students in the School of Graduate Studies’ Neural & Behavioral Science program.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral Degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent) in Neuroscience and/or a related discipline.
• Demonstrate high potential for substantial federal funding, an outstanding record of neuroscience research, and a dedicated commitment to scholarly mentorship.
• Expected to establish an innovative and independent research program that will attract and maintain extramural federal funding.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Applicant may have a range of scientific expertise that includes basic laboratory research or clinical/translational research.
• Experience teaching and/or mentoring pre-doctoral or medical students.
