Title: Sponsored Programs Assistant I

Unit: Office of Research Programs (ORP)

Salary: $58,000 - $63,000 Annually Commensurate with Qualifications

Location: SUNY ESF Campus. Hybrid position possible, depending on experience & qualifications.

Brief description of duties: Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Research Finance, this position provides financial administrative support to the Office of Research team with various tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Monitor closeout reports and prepare submission of award closeout package to the Research Foundation for SUNY. Isolate and resolve exceptions with business partners within the Office of Research Finance, ESF Business Office, and Research Foundation on a timely basis;
  • Monitor submitted closeouts to ensure completion of the process;
  • Ensure that fixed cost funding is allocated to the appropriate Department and Principal Investigator;
  • Monitor payroll suspense report and prepare and submit suspense adjustments. Many adjustments will require communication with ORP staff, Human Resources, and the Payroll office;
  • Assist with other areas of finance including budgeting, research, and special projects as assigned;
  • A successful candidate will make process improvements by automating forms, creating reports, and managing processes and will build connections with ORP, ESF and RF staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or associate degree with 4 years of professional work experience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Service-oriented with the ability to work within a team and multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Proficient with information systems and Excel spreadsheet software
  • Ability to identify, research, and resolve problems, and follow through on tasks with moderate direction
  • Proficient in navigating business systems, electronic documents, and sponsors' website

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, administration, or other relevant field;
  • Experience in a higher education, sponsored program, or contract administration environment
