The Title IX Coordinator will report directly to the Dean of Students and have a dotted line report to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources & Chief Diversity officer of the College. Responsibilities include investigating claims of sexual discrimination, harassment, sexual assault, violence or misconduct and identify the appropriate response or resolutions as may be prescribed by Policy and Law.
The Title IX Coordinator will work with the complainant(s) to assist them in accepting any appropriate internal and external support services. The Title IX Coordinator will work closely with the Dean of Students on setting an executing policy and overseeing the processes that address reported concerns or claims of sex or gender-based harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct or sexual violence.
This position is also responsible for the development, oversight, and coordination of campus-wide education, training, and outreach programming for students, faculty, and staff related to Title IX, Clery Act and VAWA. The Title IX Coordinator will be required to participate in part of the College's annual Sea Term training program with the length of onboard support determined in coordination with the Master of the Training Ship and the Dean of Students.
Responsibilities include:
- Investigation and report of claims of sexual discrimination, harassment, sexual assault, violence or misconduct
- Identify the appropriate responses or facilitate resolutions to complaints as may be prescribed by Policy and Law
- Day-to-day application and review of College policies and practices to ensure compliance with Title IX, Title VII and other Equal Opportunity laws at both the State and Federal levels
- Assume primary responsibility for monitoring all amendments and interpretations to Title IX, the Clery Act, the Violence
- Against Women Act, and other applicable law and regulations
- Coordinate and conduct prevention and education training to SUNY Maritime students and staff pursuant to Title IX and related statutes and regulations including but not limited to LEAD 101 cohorts and student leadership training programs (INDOC, Student Athletes, Resident Advisors, etc.) for all student leaders
- Stay abreast of regulations and statues and disseminate information of Title IX requirements
- Organize and maintain faculty and staff compliance records for required training
- Assisting the Office of Human Resource Service, Office of General Counsel with complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment and work with the appropriate offices to advise staff, faculty, and students of the college's policy and procedures regarding nondiscrimination and other Title IX matters
- Support inclusive excellence of SUNY maritime Diversity Plan for equity and inclusion
- Collaborating with academic and administrative liaisons such as University Police Department, Athletics, Empire State Training Ship VII or alternative training vessels utilized for annual Sea Term Training Programs, Regiment of Cadets, Licensing Office, Dean of Student Affairs, and Office of Human Resources Services/Office of Diversity
- Preparing annual statistical reports for the compliance of the Annual Security Report which complies with Clery Act
- Working with the appropriate offices to review reports on crime statistics provided by the University Police Department
- Coordinate with the Empire State VII training ship staff onboard for Title IX investigations and make recommendations to shore-side management in respect to the investigation procedures
- Assist and disseminate training opportunities through SUNY SCI (Student Conduct Institute) and other off-campus entities for staff, faculty and campus partners Continued professional development with SUNY or Federal supported workshops and campus affiliates for best practices in the sphere of Title IX and support services
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- 3-5 years of professional experience working with Title IX related issues
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations, including Title IX, sexual harassment and other applicable laws and regulations
- Strong counseling, negotiation, presentation and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills: writing, speaking, listening
- Computer literacy and ability to handle extremely sensitive and confidential matters discreetly
- Ability to conduct research and analyze data and draw conclusions
- Previous experience with and training in conducting investigatory processes and responding to complaints
- Experience dealing with student conduct adjudication, investigations, dispute resolution, and compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Higher Education administration, legal studies, Juris Doctor, or related
- Understanding of higher education policy issues at both the state and federal levels
- Experience in a public institution of higher education
Additional Information:
Classification/Salary Range: The Title IX Coordinator is a full-time calendar year Management/Confidential unclassified position which serves at the President's pleasure. The anticipated salary range for the position is $69,000.00 to $82,000.00 annually with an outstanding benefits package (for additional information, please see the M/C13-Unclassified-Benefits-at-Glance. Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. The position may require working a non-traditional schedule in order to accommodate the operational needs of the College and requires some travel.
