As we launch our new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program, we are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable MRI Instructor to join our team and prepare students for rewarding careers in this advanced field of healthcare. As an MRI Instructor at SUNY Niagara, you will have the unique opportunity to shape a new program, delivering engaging and comprehensive instruction in Magnetic Resonance Imaging. You will help students develop the technical and professional skills needed to succeed as MRI technologists, ensuring alignment with industry and accreditation standards.


The instructor will develop and implement curriculum, facilitate hands-on training in MRI techniques and safety protocols, and assess student learning outcomes. The Instructor will provide quality learning opportunities that assist students in meeting their educational goals and career aspirations. The Instructor will be responsible for effectively integrating MRI technology into classroom instruction, ensuring that students gain a comprehensive understanding of its applications and functionalities.


The instructor will also be responsible for program coordination, student advisement, assessment of learning outcomes, participation in divisional and college activities, and all required duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. This is a full time 10-month grant-funded position. The typical teaching load is 15 lecture hours or 18 lecture/lab hours per semester. In addition, the instructor will be responsible for attending regular office hours, meetings on campus, and participating in committees. Teaching assignments may be during day, evening, or weekend hours. Classes are held on SUNY Niagara’s main campus in Sanborn, NY.


In addition to the base salary, there are many ways to increase the salary further by teaching overload, teaching summer courses, doing special assignments etc. There is a tenure track pathway for promotion to higher level salaries of Associate Professor and Professor.


The successful candidate will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid-March.

Typical Work Activities:

Instruction

  • Teach MRI courses including but not limited to fundamental MRI principles, anatomy, physiology, patient care, MRI safety, and imaging procedures.
  • Provide instruction with the focus on teaching and learning to help ensure students in each class successfully meet all course outcomes and classroom objectives.
  • Identify, select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
  • Development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including, but not limited to, course syllabi and assessments.
  • Develop and administer tests, practical exams, and assignments to assess students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom climate consistent with SUNY Niagara’s mission and vision.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with faculty and the AVP of Academic Affairs to design and update course materials, to ensure that the latest in MRI technology and industry standards are incorporated.
  • Ensure all instructional practices comply with accreditation standards and industry guidelines, particularly in safety and patient care.
  • Provide at least 5 office hours per week.
  • Oversee MRI lab sessions, instruct students on operating MRI equipment, and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Provide academic guidance, monitor student progress, and support students’ success in the program.


Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Stay current with MRI technology and practices, pursuing ongoing professional development to enhance instruction.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities, including program-specific and campus-wide faculty meetings.

  • Administrative Duties

    • Meet requirements for creation, distribution, retention and/or submission of paperwork.
    • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing feedback to Program Coordinator and/or the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.
    • Complete required reporting such as student attendance, census, student learning outcome progress (course level), and final grade calculation and entry.
    • Attend required College functions/events.
    • Participate in faculty senate and divisional committees
    • Advise students for classes and career options.
    • If applicable, as program coordinator:
    • Assuring effective program operations; Overseeing ongoing program accreditation and assessment processes;
    • Participating in budget planning;
    • Participating in didactic and/or clinical instruction, as appropriate;
    • Maintaining current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development;
    • Assuming the leadership role in the continued development of the program.
    • Recordkeeping, budgeting, scheduling
    • Program updates (syllabi, degree requirements)
    • New course and program development
    • Represent the program at open houses
    • Management and maintenance of Advisory Board
    • Hiring, training, and evaluation of adjunct faculty and part-time technical assistants
    • Maintain and update information for each clinical site regarding the clinical clearance process.
    • Routinely communicate with clinical affiliates and visit clinical sites as needed.
    • Advise on the requirements for admission and clinical clearance into the MRI programs.
    • Provide each clinical site with the required information needed for clinical clearance.
    • Recruit new clinical sites for the MRI program.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the AVP of Academic Affairs


    Required Qualifications:

    • Associate of Applied Science degree in Radiologic Technology and a Master’s degree in Radiologic Technology, MRI Technology or related field
    • ARRT certification
    • Two years of full-time or equivalent experience as an imagining technologist.
    • Proven expertise in MRI technology, with comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in operating MRI equipment.
