The Nursing Simulation Lab Assistant Professor leads and manages educational experiences in our state-of-the-art Simulation Lab. This position is pivotal in providing realistic, hands-on training to students in our Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Certificate and Registered Nurse (RN) Associate of Applied Science (AAS) programs, equipping them with the skills needed for modern nursing practice.


The Assistant Professor will integrate simulation-based learning into the nursing curriculum, develop simulation scenarios that replicate real-world patient care situations, and provide expertise in clinical education. This position will also oversee the preparation, maintenance, inventory and operation of nursing simulation equipment and supplies. This position involves direct teaching responsibilities, student advisement, and active participation in divisional and college activities.


The instructor will also be responsible for student advisement, assessment of learning outcomes, and all required duties as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. The typical teaching load is 15 lecture hours or 18 lecture/lab hours per semester. In addition, the instructor will be responsible for regular office hours, meetings on campus, and participating in committees. Teaching assignments may be during day, evening, or weekend hours. Classes are held on SUNY Niagara’s main campus in Sanborn, NY.


The base salary of $67,953 per year equates to $59.92 per hour given the 162-day professional obligation of the position. In addition to the base salary, there are many ways to increase the salary further by teaching overload, teaching summer courses, doing special assignments etc. There is a tenure track pathway for promotion to higher level salaries of Associate Professor and Professor.


The successful candidate will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid-March.


Selected candidates may be eligible to receive fully paid tuition scholarship to earn a Master’s of Science in Nursing Education.

Typical Work Activities:

Simulation Lab Management:

  • Design, plan, and implement simulation scenarios that align with the nursing curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Operate and maintain high-fidelity simulation equipment, mannequins, and software.
  • Coordinate the general operation of the simulation laboratory to providef patient simulation experiences
  • Coordinate simulation lab schedules and learning activities with nursing faculty and students.
  • Oversee the regular maintenance and repair of simulation equipment


Instruction:

  • Teach nursing concepts through simulation in collaboration with other faculty members.
  • Facilitate student learning by creating realistic, engaging, and safe simulation experiences.
  • Provide instruction with the focus on teaching and learning to help ensure students in each class successfully meet all course outcomes and classroom objectives.
  • Identify, select and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
  • Development, integration, and delivery of course content planning documents including, but not limited to, course syllabi and assessments.
  • Develop and administer tests, practical exams, and assignments to assess students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom climate consistent with SUNY Niagara’s mission and vision.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Ensure all instructional practices comply with accreditation standards and industry guidelines, particularly in safety and patient care.
  • Provide academic guidance, monitor student progress, and support students’ success in the program.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to integrate simulation into classroom, clinical, and lab instruction.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols within the simulation lab.


Professional Development

  • Participate in divisional and college-wide committees, activities, and events.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities to remain current in nursing education and simulation technology.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities, including program-specific and campus-wide faculty meetings.
  • Stay current with best practices in simulation-based education and implement innovative teaching methodologies.


Administrative Duties

  • Meet requirements for creation, distribution, retention and/or submission of paperwork.
  • Provide at least 5 office hours per week.
  • Participate in curriculum monitoring and development process by providing feedback to Program Coordinator and/or the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Complete required reporting such as student attendance, census, student learning outcome progress (course level), and final grade calculation and entry.
  • Attend required College functions/events.
  • Participate in faculty senate and divisional committees
  • Advise students for classes and career options.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the AVP of Academic Affairs


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and enrolled in a Master’s of Science in Nursing program.
  • Proof that one has completed all requirements for a Master’s of Science with a major in Nursing within 18 months of starting the position
  • Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Nursing clinical experience or teaching experience in nursing within the last 5 years
